To sum it up, they have built a series of Dams to deepen the river for commercial traffic. Average depths when it was natural ranged from 3-20 feet. Now it is closer to 15 feet deep throughout.

The Delaware is 45 feet deep and is a short boat ride from Philadelphia to the Atlantic Ocean. Shipping out of Philadelphia into the Atlantic Ocean will be much faster and the Delaware can also handle larger ships. That's why Sunoco is building a pipeline from the shale to Marcus Hook. It's just faster and easier to ship out of Philadelphia which means it will also make more sense to have most of the refineries in Philadelphia.

What would that mean if that were to happen?

It would mean a monopoly would become a bigger monopoly.

For the city of Philadelphia, it would probably mean more jobs and a need for more space.

I don't believe this will ever happen. Antitrust is my area of expertise (development being just a hobby), and they would run into huge Hart-Scott and FTC issues, as well as public outcry.

I'm always generally optimistic on this thread, but this will not happen. Nevertheless, the big tower is still ripe for development in the immediate future.

What about breaking TWC apart and selling off the pieces. Comcast could participate then?

TWC may derive higher value as the parts should be more valuable than the whole. ( no one needs the HQ and other overlapping staff)

Could the BSL extension run above ground? It seems like it would be easier and more cost effective to run the tracks down the middle of Broad St. since most of that stretch is not very dense.
