Interesting, but who is going to rent all of that office space?

Edit: Ahhh, over the next 20 years. Nevermind.

What happened to the 70 floor buildings? Why cap it to 60? I want Brentwood to trump Vancouver

Fantastic news!

I hope the movie theatre does end up becoming part of the plaza. I hope all of you regular SkyTrain riders get us some great pictures over the next few years as it should provide a pretty good vantage point.

Amazing. I'll take two 60 storey towers in the first phaze vs. an 'up to 70 story building at some point' any day

Title updated.

Heard the 60-storey towers will be a combination of rental and condo.

I see that an Ellis Don signage is up at the corner of Willington and Lougheed. Are they going to be the GC on site or just using the space for staging

This is going to be an amazing project when finished. (... Even moreso when one takes in the towers of SOLO as an adjunct in neighborhood height and density).

I've been sending the YouTube link on the new Burnaby Town Centre to friends and family overseas.

They all seem quite impressed.

Looks like this is going to public hearing again on Tuesday, Nov 26 at 7pm in Burnaby city hall. From Burnaby News Leader article by Wanda Chow:http://www.burnabynewsleader.com/news/229724621.html

Also, it looks like the plan for the "Central Civic Plaza" is to have a big fountain and large tree at the center. Kind of crappy name imo but I cant really think of anything better.

Here's a render from the June open house that shows a prominent tree at the center of the plaza:

Nice.

That sure gives the mall building a lot more prominence than if the guideway were curved and the station on the [former] mall parking lot.

^ Certainly a dramatic night and day-type of difference in scale and urbanity when compared to the expansion of Guildford Town Centre.

Unless they transplant a mature tree into the plaza, it will be a very long time before a tree grows to the size illustrated. Critical to that will be a huge volume of un-compacted soil. The silva cells that were used along the Olympic Village Sea Wall have had the effect of doubling the rate of growth for the trees, versus conventional street tree planting, according to Margo Lang of PWL Partnership.

The site is being surrounded with advertising as we speak.

Looks like Rennie will be marketing the residential component;

www.theamazingbrentwood.com

The build out looks particularly impressive when presented in its entirety, as can be seen here:

http://vimeo.com/78307662

I assume the details of the towers are yet to be revealed, though the tallest sure looks impressive.

That video is out of date. A longer and more comprehensive version can be found in the first post in this thread. And it depicts towers ranging to 70-storeys, but those plans have been scaled back to include towers no taller than 60 storeys, as was reported a few posts back.

This is going to be so awesome when complete, whatever the final edition.
Imagine first-time visitors entering the city over the new Port Mann gateway bridge, glimpsing the towers of Metrotown as they cross the bridge, through Cape Horn up to and past the Lougheed Town Centre, through the central valley park of Burnaby, and emerging to see Brentwood central, with it's 40-50-60-storey buildings (not to mention adjacent tall projects like SOLO). It'll give a lot of people a wow.

Curious that RennieMarketing has elected to run with that video as part of its marketing material.

Perhaps this will change as they update the site.

EDIT: Viewed the video in the first post, it appears to be a more detailed edit of the same material. Neat none the less.

The Rennie one says it was posted 6 days ago -
presumably they figure you can't tell the difference between a 70 storey render and a 60 storey render.

PS thanks for posting the link.

So happy to finally see the ball rolling on this project. I am however very curious to see how it sells. Solo District has been advertising they have sold 350 units since summer 2012 out of its first two towers with two more still to come. That's about 1000 more suites to sell for Solo District over the next few years. If the first phase of Brentwood has 2x60fl towers, that's an easy 800+ suites to compete with, and that's just the first phase of Brentwood.

Given the two gigantic developments going up at one intersection combined with the skytrain station, I wonder if a scramble crossing might be prudent here one day.

I was at the station today, a lot of clearing is being done in the corner (former gas station) lot.
