Thank you! I guess that is the confirmed name? It's strange that I don't see any marketing ad of this hotel anywhere.

rental condos as per >> http://www.biv.com/article/20130423/BIV0111/304239944

the building looks OK .... will be interesting to see how much the rents are when it goes to market. I imagine we are looking at an early 2014 completion?

Pic by me today.
The sides at the top look to be done - just the Robson facade to be closed in.

The sides with the glass look good but in person the sides with the non-glass (ie. facing West - TV Towers) looks pretty shabby and dated.

I tend to agree. This is one that will need to be power-washed pretty frequently. None the less, it's a solid addition to this corner and the colour subtly references the Library. I would have preferred a taller commercial podium with a four storey street wall. In my opinion, some of the best, modestly scaled mixed-use buildings in Vancouver are in close proximity to this building and I had hoped the precedent of two to three floors of office space above retail at grade before a setback to the residential tower would be continued. With that said, it is a hotel, so the commercial FSR requirement of the site has been more than met.

Does anyone have insight on the difference between painted concrete and bare concrete (including pigmented concrete like the Library) when it comes to the rate at which mildew and green stuff adheres and grows? My sense is that bare concrete would be more susceptible because it is more porous than concrete that has been sealed with elastomeric paint.

As an aside, the (potential?) redevelopment of the Catholic Archdiocese site across the street will be an interesting one to watch in the next few years.

I tend to agree that the precast gives the building a dated look - largely because of the "warm" colour.
The outcome would have been a lot worse if clearer glass had been used.
As it is now, the dark glass tends to predominate.
If there were clear glass, the precast would have predominated.

Pic by me today - slowly getting there - some balcony railings (no glass yet) are in on the long balconies on the Robson side.

So the name is now Hotel Blu, no longer Crystal Blu or a Hilton sub-brand as rumoured previously? The logo looks very second-rate and I was unable to find any information on Hotel Blu when I googled it. Seems odd.

"Crystal Blu" is the name of a condo in Toronto - maybe trademark issues?.

It looks like the developer, Mayfair Properties, has registered the name hotelbluvancouver.com, so they're probably working on a website now.

Here is the list of Mayfair's 7 downtown Vancouver hotels: http://www.mayfairhotelsandresorts.com/ . 4 of the 7 hotels are independently managed, so that is probably what they're doing with Hotel Blu.

Thanks for that Phesto, seems Mayfair has a lot of small hotels in the immediate area, wonder if it will be branded as a chain?

The whole development has been a little mysterious, for a long time the only sign was a homemade 'crystal blu' made of blue rope lights attached to the hoarding.

They may do so during the marketing phase then abandon the mark.

For example, enter "residences" under search criteria here and you'll get a lot of registrations, many abandoned, some expunged (challenged and invalidated):

http://www.cipo.ic.gc.ca/app/opic-ci...ch.do?lang=eng

BTW, there's no registration for Crystal Blu.

Developers do not as far as I know trademark condo names.

Maybe someone thought that "Crystal Blu" had too much of a connotation of crystal meth ? Lol.

Pic by me today.
Looks to be all enclosed except for the protruding part above the entrance and the mechanical penthouse.
