I know the library at the Citibank is tiny, but honestly the library they are building there isnt much bigger. I seems like most of the space is being used for landscaping.

It's not really HPS, but here's a rendering for the building U/C across the street we've been discussing in this thread:

Wow. It's surprising that something visually appealing is going up over there. Most everything in LIC is shlock, especially the East Coast LIC development.

I think it's just the most obvious buildings are the least attractive. There are a number of nice smaller buildings. This one, the power house, 5SL, 1 Vernon Jackson, the Solarium, 10-63 Jackson, the place on 11th st that completely escapes me right now and the metal shingle place on 5th st that I also can't think of the name of. Ah well. We'll see how it comes out in reality.

I hope the red awnings denote retail. That would be nice.

This does a great job at concealing the botched Powerhouse condo. How cool still would it have been to have those old smokestacks looming over that intersection?

Zoning Approved for 37-Story Hunters Point South Building
Wednesday, January 2, 2013, by Jessica Dailey

"Hunters Point South, the affordable housing complex destined for the Long Island City waterfront, is moving forward. Work on the site has been quiet, but the developers have been constructing new infrastructure for the coming buildings over the last year. Now, Queens NYC points us toward some news from the Economic Development Corporation: plans for the project's 37-story building at 1-50 50th Avenue have received zoning approvals. The 627,960-square-foot behemoth will have 619 apartments and 223 parking spaces, and the plans show private terraces and public roof spaces. No word on when we can expect a groundbreaking or if the development is still projected to open phase one in 2014."

Related lands $390M in construction loans

By Daniel Geiger
February 14, 2013

Quote:
The Related Cos. has arranged two large financing deals for development projects it is working on in the outer boroughs, in another sign of an uptick of construction lending in the city.

Bank of America, along with Wells Fargo is also providing a $165 million loan to a partnership between Related, Phipps Houses and Monadnock Construction for the first of a twin-building, 908-unit affordable housing complex in the Hunters Point section of Queens, near the East River.

The deals come at a time when other lenders have also begun to finance real estate projects that just a few years ago would have had difficulty attracting capital.

If indeed this is a go, I'm thrilled with this. I particulary like how the base of the taller tower pays homage to the original WTC facade.

The overall variety in this regard is IMO an *extremely* welcome departure from the dog-eared functionalist squared turd design that plagues apartment buildings throughout the city. Now, if Co-op City in the Bronx only had this kind of visual appeal....

The school must be nearly done. I think it's opening this fall. Once the weather takes a turn for the nicer, I'll get over here for pics. I still think about what it'd be like had I moved here.
