I was downtown this afternoon and made a few stops, including the Pearl. The crane has jumped and it looks like the 11th floor is well under way. It's hard to believe that the building is still less than a third of the way to the top.

This will soon be visible from every corner of the city. It is certainly noticable from most areas of the south side. While driving by today I did a quick floor count. It looks like they are working on number 18. I may be off by one because I was in traffic while I was counting. I wonder if the new distracted driver law goes beyond cell phones and includes staring skyward to watch construction. If so, this could be an expensive year.

I stopped by the Pearl yesterday and took these photos. They just started the 18th floor, meaning that the building has just passed the half-way point in terms of floors now! It's presence is impressive already, and it still has quite a ways to go.

Hard to tell from this, but it was sneaking over that tower in front of it.

Pearl up to 36 and 119m! New tallest condo!!!!

This is part of the letter.

__________________________________________________ _______

The proposed rezoning application will seek approval to increase the height of the building from 35 storeys to 36 storeys(to a maximum height of 119 metres) and reduce the number of the allowable units from 174 to 160.

Pre-sales for the Pearl luxury condominium have generated a significant demand for a larger units. As a result, several of the smaller units have been consolidated into larger units in order to accommodate some of this demand. The developer is proposing to add one (1) additional floor to the tower in order to accommodate the remainder of this demand.

The underground parkade has already been constructed with 296 vehicular parking spaces based on the requirements of the originally proposed 174 units. This number of parking spaces will remain and will exceed the parking requirements in the City of Edmonton Zoning Bylaw for the proposed 160 units.

The proposed additional floor will increase the total Gross Floor Area by 5.18% and increase the Floor Are Ratio (FAR) from 6.18 to 6.50.

I was at the university doing homework and I took this photo of the Pearl. It looks like it's up to the 19th floor.

isn't it strange for a building at this height to have no cladding?? are they not working on the interiors? seems like that would add a lot of extra hours to the construction time...

^yup... we are all wondering about that. Sounds like they had not decided on or are awaiting glazing.
