Wouldn't quite call that a "force"... Might call that "Buddy of the mayor wants to play cop".

Google has updated its street view for Winnipeg.
Pictures were taken this summer.

Well now, that is a lot nicer looking. They did it after our street was finally rebuilt by the city, as well, so when I show people in Toronto where I come from it will no longer elicit comments about the third-world road conditions.

Back in August, my co-worker and I spotted a Google Street view car waiting at the lights at Harrow and Grant, going north on Harrow. So we decided to follow it up to Academy. Lo and behold, we took a pic of the Google street view car, right next to it.

Fast forward to now, and my curiosity was kicking in at the office, so I decided to check it out. This happened...

My pic of the car:
I was sitting at the passenger side, while he was driving.

The updated Street View images are now available in Winnipeg. Looks like they were taken from late spring to September 2012.

Don't know if I would really want the job of driving the street view car for more than a few weeks. Too much of living out of hotel rooms for months on end to make a career out of it.

I have been told that the SPD officers are ex Winnipeg and/or Railway Police. You see them parked a lot at the Tim's on Dugald having Coffee with the CP Rail police.

It was the Jetta. That RAV4 was kind of blocking our view the whole way until the intersection of Harrow and Academy.

I notice today, on Google Earth, they have added 3D buildings to ALL of Winnipeg, including residential homes, and trees.

That is very cool. I can't even begin to comprehend the amount of data and lines of code required to make Google Earth work the way it does.

There is some pretty funny rendering of houses with big trees around them.

Someone123 (a forumer here) was working on developing software that could take photos of something from multiple angles and build a 3D model of it, which is similar (or possibly the same?) to what Google Earth is using. It's pretty cool stuff.
