^ I agree - on a less than classy block. But there are 2-3 new liquor applications, some place called 'Empire' opening soon, a fairly significant development application on the large vacant lot beside Wings and the possible Joeys a block away - things seem to be changing quickly.
Seeing how thin the walls of the V6A seem to be, I have to ask... is there anything in the building codes that mandate how strong these need to be in the case of an earthquake?
From the second pic, it looks like the middle part of the building has concrete demising walls (walls separating the units) which do appear thin viewed end-on (but its length would provide stability) - probably a "bowling alley" type suite layout. The units on the west side of the building seem to have the usual (thicker) columns at the exterior wall and presumably within the units as well (probably different suite layouts).

Haha yeah of course, the entire building code is designed with earthquakes in mind.
Even learning from the examples of California (and more recently Seattle's recent shakes) to improve the building codes to get earthquake resistance incorporated into new buildings and retrofitting old buildings, I doubt there's much that would survive the expected 9.0+ that is expected to hit the area in our lifetimes.
The last 'big one' in the Vancouver - Seattle area was in 1700 and is estimated to have lasted for up to 5 minutes and shook the West Coast from northern California to the northern tip of Vancouver Island. A quake of that magnitude would likely have been felt as far away as Winnipeg or Chicago, and the resulting Tsunami is recorded in Japan as the Orphan Tsunami (because there wasn't a Japanese earthquake that preceded the tsunami)
Even the 'smaller' aftershocks in the days afterwards would be greater than what we've seen in Haiti, Chile, Indonesia, and Italy in recent years.
It would be a situation where the survivors would think the people who died in the quake were the lucky ones.

Every time the 44 pulls up in front of that place I think man, is it gonna be loud. Other than that it looks like a great example of low/mid infill. Be interested to see interiors - and the view from the back units since it seems those will be the most coveted.
