City council approves plan to spend $7m on making part of the Agriplex expo building a multi-sport venue.

It will see the transformation of the stadium portion of the approximately 125,000 square-foot venue, renamed last year, into a three-court gymnasium that could be used for sports such as pickleball and badminton.

Random question from a West Coast guy. If the new CFL TV deal is big enough to be divided and fund teams better and say 15K seats is enough to be profitable, would adding temp seats or a intro renovation to Western's Stadium work in London? Assuming a local ownership group that will partner and build a brand locally? Could also work to fit a new CPL team as well to maximize the investment? Seems lie there is room to expand

My 2 cents worth is this: if this was ever a possibility and I am not sure it is, it would better for it to be at the Western Fair grounds. That would mean a reworking of the stands there, but I think the board at the fair would be more suited to promote this vs. Western. Plus it is more central and will have better transit soon. It would be cool to see a team (or 2) there plus outdoor concerts beyond the capacity of Canada Life Place.

Interesting, I never thought of something like this. Are you suggesting the horse racing track? Is it still being used?

I don't see London supporting a CFL team to that level. 15k might be ok when you have MLSE's money, I think you need more than that though and this pic is showing maybe 6000-7000 people, mostly on benches with actual chairs numbering in the hundreds. I don't think Western can be appropriately expanded to a CFL standard. Even just putting in the Canada Games bleachers (the reason the place was built, for the 2001 Games), bringing seating up to 18,000, it is still a crappy stadium.

Yes I am referring to the horse racing track, many of those places are going out of business.

Yeah it is not viable at Western Fair as a stand alone venture but stadiums are rarely stand alone, single purpose anymore. You have to consider the fair grounds as a whole and what they are trying to do there. I assume they want it to be more of a destination so sports events and concerts along with some retail/restaurants could be interesting. Would London support it? I am not sure. We support OHL very well and this is a boring city so maybe getting a more professional team will attract people. Not a slam dunk for sure. I would like to see a CPL team though.

Western Alumni is 8K capacity seating they say 10K total capacity but I am not sure what that means exactly if its standing room as well. For them to get to 15K they would need to rebuild the east side stands which is currently 15 rows of all benches, it would need to be the same size as the west side which is 30 rows...and they would also need to have them extend and wrap up to at least level with the back of the end zones to get to that number.

The next issue would be parking, Huron Flats parking lot maybe holds 500 vehicles and the one north of the stadium would be another 500 max. Add in the logistics getting that many people in/out it would be a nightmare even after Phillip Aziz is updated.

They have the ability to do it no question, I honestly do not see them wanting to have that type of facility there. As GreatTallNorth2 said I think something like this would be better suited somewhere like Western Fair.
