I understand that perspective, but it depends on the type.

Lithium-ion batteries are very good for digital cameras - much better than nickel-cadmium, and much more efficient than AAs.

I've specifically had a Lumix (one of the much more complicated ones that takes a lot more battery) for three years now and the li-ion battery is fantastic - it charges in less than an hour and lasts a long time.

The specs and price of the Lumix is great, why isnt it sold out. Because many have the thought of batteries - propriety ones.

From another person:

"I'm looking for new camera too- and I have these as a priority:

Must use AA batteries. You can use re-chargeables, and in an emergency can nip into almost any shop (even the cafe on top of Mount Snowdon) to buy some ordinary alkalines.

I HATE trying to see the screen on the back when I'm out in sunlight. Must have an eye-level viewfinder.

Must not be too tiny for my big hands.

EDIT: Antishake is worth having, especially as you get older.

And finally- the best camera is the one that's in your pocket when you need it."

Good comparison of different AA rechargeables.

Good comparison of popular brands

-----------------------------------------

Well you can sort of compare it to a laptop - they have propriety batteries and when they get old and you need to replace them, economically, it usually does not make sense. I posted about a laptop that uses AA bat. wow that will always be useful machine if you use linux with it. Same thing with digicams...those that still produce cams with special bats are lost and out ot touch with consumers and practicallity

At Walmart for about $7 I can get (4AA) 2500mah batteries, a cam specific one if you can find it or even order it, depending on the age of the cam may not be worth it.

YMMV mic67

I'd recommend Teksavvy instead as there isn't the year up front and MLPPP support is available (don't know about acanac on this).
i've been on acanac for a couple years now, and haven't had a bad experience with them at all. if there is throttling, it's much less than rogers was. (our previous ISP).

you don't have to sign up for a year up front with acanac, that's only if you want the really good rate (18.95/mo for 5mbps unlimited last i checked).

but as for MLPPP, the only indications i've seen are that its in the works but support is still sporadic. dunno really though.
