That's for the casino thread...

As jlousa said this is heading for Development Permit Board on Nov 5th. Before that, next Wednesday, it's going to the Urban Design Panel. So we'll find out a little more about this project then. (Sept 26th)

Wasn't this supposed to be 28-30 stories? The proposal says 18 stories mixed use.

Cool rendering on their main page. The building itself looks tiny in it, but I like the fact that the view of BC Place is not completely blocked by this building.

This should make the casino much easier to go ahead with. Not.

The view isn't blocked only when you happen to be floating 300 feet over False Creek, like in the render. At ground level, however, these three short (but collectively wide) towers will do much more to block the view of BC Place than one tall, elegant tower ever could.

This project is a waste of space and another nail in the coffin of the so-called "entertainment zone."

I thought they would go for a much taller structure given the location.

Ideally, PAVCO shouldn't have sold off this lot and should have instead developed this site - along with the casino/hotel site - as one big development: a major entertainment attraction with office, hotel, and of course the casino.

Of course, it's the ideal.

That's not a PavCo lot - it's an Expo 86 parcel.
The Expo 86 site (i.e. parking lots) went right up to Beatty Street.

I wonder if this is where the big new sports bar Leftcoaster was talking about will be. Makes sense being so close to the stadiums with the lower levels being retail.

The whole area, from this project all the way to the viaducts, is one giant facepalm

on another note, i'm intrigued that concord (or rennie, i guess) changed the name of the project to 1 pacific. i've noticed that in very mature residential highrise markets worldwide, it's fairly rare to find buildings with names like "colors" or "mondrian" or "symphony place" or anything like that. mostly they are just the street address, occasionally with a person or company name attached to it. obviously, this project happens to be on pacific, so the 1 pacific still sounds pretty 'marketing' and could well be consistent with the rest of the lot, but vancouver does have a few others that are named in the same vein (in projects on seymour, howe, richards, cordova, water, main) and generally, one senses a shift from the flamboyance of something like "vancouver's turn" or "shangri-la" in several of the recent projects, like rolston or the mark (which sort of references the old watermark). heady days, vancouver, keep it up.

Hopefully the name change has more to do with them making the building not look like a rainbow vomited on it.

I sort of like that this development won't be too tall, so that the view of the stadium is not totally obscured from the bridge.

Pedestrian overhead walkway connecting Cambie Bridge and BC Place used to be here before it was recently demolished.

Will residents of new One Pacific have to stare at this giant electronic sign all day/night??
