Have been back on the ferries a bit lately and have noticed how worn the Coastal Class boats look-almost 20 years operating in saltwater will do that to anything of course.

Old 2019 concept renderings (not necessarily current):
Looks easier to get to the terminal from the highway, but there's not enough space for cars to turn around
to get back to the highway after after you've picked-up/dropped-off someone.
Drivers won't want to go through the village, and villagers won't want all that extra traffic.

Interesting! Be curious to see an updated concept. Any idea where the surface parking lot will go? Or will they just release more parking to the public inside the parkade?

This project doesn’t include a new foot passenger building as is prominently featured in those renders.

This work will include life extending or replacing the three berths, relocating the control tower, addressing aging elevated structures, improving seismic safety and enhancing the terminal’s operational efficiency.

Horseshoe bay is kind of a mess and the foot passenger area is the most crowded of all.

Ya we're always left sitting in the corridors cheek to jowl. Feels like a small town airport that has one terminal and got a bunch of flights re-routed to it.

Yeah, the foot passenger waiting areas at the berths definitely need to be enlarged.
Probably good that the terminal building won't be replaced - it doesn't need to be big, as that's not where people wait.
All they'd end up doing is adding a retail marketplace that would compete with the Village.

The benefit of a second entrance is obvious though - it would allow one ferry to load and another to unload simultaneously as the car paths wouldn't cross.

What exactly going on with it? I recall it was purchased by a crazy old man and moved at least once in the last decade due to high water issues and then it just sat like an abandoned project. Is dude even still alive?
His boat. His project. His mooring and his cleanup responsibility. His fault that there's been no attempts to keep the animals out.

B.C. Ferries CEO Nicolas Jimenez said CMI Weihai was selected because the company is a global leader in passenger-ferry construction and shipbuilding.

“It was the clear choice based on the overall strength of its bid, including its technical capabilities, high-quality and safety standards, ferry-building experience, proven ability to deliver safe, reliable vessels on dependable timelines, and the overall cost and value it delivers for our customers — all essential as we continue to experience growing demand and the urgent need to renew our aging fleet,” Jimenez said in a statement.

The four major vessels are expected to be in service by 2031, replacing aging vessels in the B.C. Ferries fleet.

According to the news report I just heard on the radio, not a single Canadian shipbuilding company submitted a bid.

Pretty sure we could still build ferries since we still build warships. Or allies Germany, Poland, Japan or South Korea could. I guess Eby and McPhail didn't get Mark Carney's memo:
