They were applying the stucco around the door on the John St. side yesterday. It actually doesn't look too bad, it kinda blends in with the building.

As far as I saw this AM while waiting for the B-Line, it looks like a 'primer' coat of some sort. I would hope so anyway since it was a dull grey colour.
I'm sure it'll be done by the time I get home this aft! I'll have to report! haha

hahaha I hope it's not :s But ya, I think you're right... I'm pretty sure they're only stuccoing around the doors along John, but the whole (bottom) wall of the Main St side is being stuccoed.
unless they pick an insane colour, this actually won't look too bad. The upper 2 floors look to be left alone in their stone facade.
I can't wait to sit up on that rooftop.
They are not stuccoing the first floor. They are parging the wall. They are putting concrete directly on the wall. It is not like stucco with the Styrofoam backing. It is used to protect bad walls, seal walls or as a base for another heavy material. I believe it is the latter that they are doing. The chicken wire is on the plywood to help it adhere better. They are most likely going to put some kind of tile, brick or stone on it. But I do not think it looks all that bad as is.
Yeah, depending on what the final surface is, the stonework on the 2nd and 3rd floors will look good "framed" by the roof and ground-floor.
Something I noticed a couple of weeks ago. They did actually go to the trouble of matching the window surrounds on the stuccoed section of the building to the treatments on the office furniture store building on John St. on the SE of Main. So they have been mindful of maintaining local architectural traits.
hallowe'en, 2007...in fairness, this was probably the first historic building these guys ever worked on - probably had no idea what they were getting themselves into timewise. the rooftop looks a little funny and i could have done without the stucco but i think it looks good. i'm really excited to see the inside. it'll be a great addition to downtown. next step, slow down traffic on main.
The rooftoop really does look out of place. It almost looks like it's made of fake material used in movie-sets. They should've gone with something more natural looking.
I went for a walk at Sam Lawrence Park last night and the rooftop patio is clearly visible from there. the views will be awesome from this rooftop.
I also got a peek inside last night when all the lights were on. It looks awesome.
Walking by yesterday, I noticed workers installing lighting in the main floor. Nice chandalier-esq fixtures. The bar in that room right at Main/John is FANTASTIC! Wow. And I LOVE the windows (the actual windows, not the metal cladding haha). I'm going to bet that bar will be the "Barristers Lounge".
Any ideas as to where the other parts of the complex will be? (besides the obvious rooftop patio hahaha)
I too noticed the lights...very cool.
I'm not a huge fan of the smaller windows...they filled in the top portion of the windows with this parging job.
at any rate, it's coming along nicely now.
anyone know of an opening date?
They should be able to make that date, I reckon. They're nearly done now.

^^ for sure! The main & 2nd floors are done (I dunno bout the 3rd or rooftop), all that's left is fixtures & furniture. So I hope they set a date soon.
