The highway will go below grade just east of Cesar. Holly St will still have an OVERpass with elevated mainlanes there like now it if the crossing isn't removed completely.

How old is that visual and does it reflect TxDOT’s current thinking? I’ve tried looking this up my own, but without a link to that visual I am not having much success. It indicates that TXDOT is backing away from a plan which would allow for capped parkland.

Sorry, but what do they mean by "managed" lanes? I understand the general point of the tunnel to reconnect east austin and downtown, and essentially provide a higher-efficiency pass-through of downtown, but how would alternatives 2 and 3 even change things? Just adding above-ground roads that are essentially "express lanes"?

It's about a month old. TxDot has been very consistent that they were NOT putting in caps and the city could come in the future and pay to install them.

How is the city looking on financing the caps? I would assume a bond package for a "new park" downtown would go well.

It's on everyone's radar but we need a final design from TxDot. The estimate I remember hearing is the cost would be about 700-800 million for the caps. I'm not sure how that will play outside downtown in a bond vote. I think we need to try to pressure TxDot to pay for them and install on the initial contract.

Yes... which is why I said “ALLOW FOR.”

And they’d also been VERY CLEAR that any design option would ALLOW FOR them to be built (by the city). Two of these design options completely rule out later caps by the city.

I don't think you understand the schematic because none of them would disallow the downtown caps.

There was an excavator parked on the site yesterday, and Demo has been approved. But no work was being done.

It looks like demo is complete. They just need to clean up the broken stuff scattered around the site.

I think we can say Site Prep. But it may be like the Travis Site Prep in that it's not an official groundbreaking. Neither the Site Plan or Plan Review appear real close to being approved. But it's getting harder to figure that out now that the City doesn't isn't uploading as much info for public consumptions as they use to.

The site plan was approved and released today. Excavation looks like it's close to finishing because they don't have to dig very deep.
