This design is much improved upon than the first renderings we saw. These appear to have a more pedestrian-friendly scale and more care given to architectural materials used. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder what the Karnes St. elevation will look like.

I also got a tip from someone who works closely with Lake Flato and Silver that the next project, after the amphitheater and apartments, will most likely be retail and office space on both sides of Pearl Pkwy where the two lawns are.

In spite of the economic uncertainty freezing capital for new projects, its hard to see River North and the Broadway corridor being in better shape at the moment, with the Pearl providing a northern anchor for the former and and a southern anchor for the latter (and with the PAC and Broadway condos serving as its counterparts). The infill isn't going to happen as quickly as we like, but the strategic pieces are there and the momentum is building.

Might not be the final piece in that upward spiral, but it shows how there is still some momentum in the Pearl/River North area.

I caught wind of this reading through the Taste section of the EN.
It was mentioned before that Andrew Weissman was planning on opening up 4 restaurants at the Pearl, and this might/might not be one of of his planned 4; either way it is welcome. Jones/Ave. B is across the river from SAMA and a short walk from 1221.
It could be a completely different scene around that area this time next year.

He’s at it again.

Fresh from a half Iron Man in Napa, Andrew Weissman hit the ground still running with the inking of a contract for his latest project. No, it’s not the Olmos Park location you might have been hearing about. (More on that another time). It is, in fact, a park of a totally different sort.

A trailer park, in other words. On a plot of land that slopes toward the river at Ave. B and Jones Ave., and in the shadow of the long-abandoned shell of a future residential complex, Weissman is going to arrange three trailers—“Airstreams,” he says, or others inspired by taco trucks. They’ll be clustered around a shaded outdoor dining area that will also sport a kids’ playscape.

“There’s blacktop now, but we’re going to soften it up with brick pavers, crushed granite, planting…we want it to look organic,” he says.

The circling wagons themselves will each have a specific menu focus. One will serve eco-friendly disposable bowls of anything from braised pork to bubbling soup—all at $5 so “we can get sophisticated or simple.” Another will dispense wine and beer—“as many wines by the glass as possible, with some bottles stuck into tubs of ice.” And the third will, of course, provide dessert and espresso. (Among many other things, Weissman is obsessive about good coffee.)

The CIA now has seven teaching kitchens. But for nonstudents, the most visible space is at the corner of the building close to the Pearl's Full Goods Building, where a bakery and coffee shop will feature specialty Latin American breads. It opens later this fall. Visibility and transparency — an intentional design theme throughout the school — also manifests itself in the wall of windows that creates a view into the large teaching kitchens, encouraging gawking. Students have a classroom bathed in natural light, but also are sort of on display...

Another draw for the public is an outdoor Latin kitchen for traditional and iconic cooking. A 100-year-old bell will ring to let people know when the food from the nearby roasting pit is ready.

“The idea is that people will be out on the riverside and hear the bell on Saturday and come over to see the unearthing of the pit,” Kellaway said

Coming soon is an associate's degree program, a special course of studies in Latin cooking, as well as a new bakery café, and, in another year or so, a Pan-Latin restaurant that often will feature visiting chefs who are teaching classes at the school.

Outside the school, Silver Ventures is doing design work to turn the former brew house into a hotel, and it will add more retail and office/living spaces on Pearl Parkway, and some new restaurants.

“We're in discussions with three or four different operators, and we'll see,” Goldsbury said. “I think we'll have some great surprises for San Antonio.”

They just keep adding up. 73 more apartments added to the 212 or so planned at the can builiding. Retail, office space, and apartments in 3 buildings; two 3-story, one 5-story. It also gives us a sneak peak at future buildings; Bottling Building (4 floors) which appears to be new construction and Cellar Lofts, which is 5 floors and up against the River.

Good.... I saw that it didn't have much to go when I passed by on Friday. Also, not sure if you noticed, but across the way, they've also framed up alot of the back building of 1221.
