Most likely.

Some sunset pics from the last couple of weeks. Love how CCH looks from the west. Also was thinking that it would be cool if they could coordinate the lights on 111 S Main and 95 State for events or games.

Some other pics

I'm just salivating over what this photo of 200 S. is going to look like when Phase II of the West Quarter is in place.

Here's a cool video of Liberty Sky and the surrounding area. Some nice aerials in there.

Here's a couple of screenshots from the video:

Astra Tower

Walked by the Astra sight today, construction seems to be progressing rapidly,

steel footings are already in the ground around the site.

Updated google maps street view

FYI a lot of downtown SLC got updated in google map street view recently (it says October). You can see newish renderings of paper box, west quarter, liberty sky, and tower 8. If you’re out of state like me these are a godsend.

2nd South is really gonna look crazy in a couple years. So many high-rises going in along that road.

This is the shoring work that is going prior to the excavation. The piers wont happen until the excavation for the mat footing is complete.

I'm way out of state. Thanks for the info.

There was a nice live shot on the national news last night of downtown. Kind of from the northwest looking across 400 west and toward all of the new construction area around the West Quarter, Paperbox, etc. It was a little overcast and drizzly, but downtown was looking very dense with a lot of new construction. They were giving Utah props for being the most charitable state in the nation.

Sugar Alley is coming right along!

Somebody grab a couple of pics of the Harvest at Marmalade. This was taken back in August. I know it's been a slow run, probably because of supply chain problems. I'm sure the facade has had a lot more added to it since August.

Utah Gerrymander.

I as a Utah voter am so disheartened by the horribly Gerrymamdered maps that were just passed by the house. I feel the only way to combat this issue is to quickly urbanize SLC as much as possible. The more people we fit in a tight area the harder it will be to Gerrymander. We need this large streak of residential constructions projects to keep surging at record pace.

For real though these maps have bummed me out all week, I feel like our state government will always work hard to hold back to urbanization and development of what could become such an amazing American city.

Lol, I give you credit to take such an unrelated topic and tie it to development.

Gerrymandering or not, I agree that Salt Lake City needs to urbanize. Aggressively. I don't think annexation or developing large tracts of undeveloped land are realistic options for Salt Lake City. Therefore, the city must become more dense and vibrant. I think most of us on this forum want that but there are people who have mindsets that hold us back: NIMBYs, preservationists, those who push for burdensome zoning and building requirements and people who just don't want to live in a "big city" including people in the state government. I think most of those people have good intentions and sometimes valid concerns but often their fears put a millstone around the neck of progress.

That's why I think Taboubak is correct in drawing a line (pun intended) to connect gerrymandering to the development of Salt Lake. With no real possibility for representation at the state level-- and, let's be honest, a real antagonism between state reps and the capitol city-- Salt Lake's ability to urbanize and control it's own destiny is somewhat hampered. The forcing of the state prison and inland port upon the city are blatant examples of this.

Downtown from Pioneer Park

Does anyone know if the crown of the CCH will be illuminated? I hope so.

The view of downtown at night looks really nice from Pioneer Park.

It could have impacts on urban development in theory. Your congressmen representing Salt Lake City will now be from 3 different districts, and 4 districts for the county for the next 10 years. This in itself seems unproductive in terms of having upper government representation that is in the best interest of Salt Lake City’s future development. Future congressmen could be from rural towns like Delta, Grouse Creek and Vernal with no connection to Salt Lake Cities urban needs. If Salt Lake County or the Wasatch urban corridor had their own congressmen then they could better represent our urban needs at a national level which in turn could affect future urban development. Think big like the recent infrastructure bill and the possibility of items in the bill being tailored to urban areas. Without urban representation those items could be left out. I’m speaking hypothetically of course, I haven’t studied the bill or know how much of the bill focuses on urban development. I also acknowledge that local representation arguably has a larger impact on the direction of future Salt Lakes urban development. In respect to this being a development forum I’ve focused on the implications of re-districting on urban development and not the implementations for politics. I will say it was a very shady process and leave it at that.
