This will be welcomed in North Winnipeg and communities north of the city. I am assuming the additional retail units are next. This with the Headingley store can let the St James location start to convert to their business centre model.

They are already building a new McDonalds on Main St next to Windsor Plywood and they will be starting a multi-unit CRU building adjacent to the Costco site.

I was in the St. James store earlier this week and I think it already has started shifting towards the business centre. There were some extra large packages of candy and other similar products that I don't remember seeing in other stores.

If that West St. Paul Costco does go through, then that absolutely helps with the otherwise insane traffic typically associated with Costco in general.

When I say traffic though, I meant the parking lot traffic on busy days.

Years ago, when there was fewer Superstore locations, with one being the McPhillips location, that store was insanely busy. Over time, with more locations like Regent, Bison, Portage, St. Anne's, and then St. James opening up, along with the smaller former SuperValu locations converted to Superstore locations of Gateway and Kenaston, traffic at McPhillips got reduced. In a sense, that came natural as more demand and growth came about as the city grew, albeit slowly.

Going back to Costco, this is much needed, and may finally address the point of contention which is parking at Costco at the existing locations, and dealing with "weird" hours relative to other stores like Superstore, Walmart, etc.

I'm hoping it takes some stress off the Winnipeg East location.

Nice that the Costco store itself is at the back of the parking lot. Not right at the front like on Regent for example so all vehicles need to drive right past the front entrance.

Probably just stay open. Looks like it remains as is. Or am I not aligned with where it is in the mall vs the CRU shown in the plans.

The Regent Costco is a clusterfuck anytime of the day. This WSP store can't be built quick enough.

It’s going to be taking up 7 storefronts across from Shoppers Drug Mart

I think the timeline Costco was originally working on had the St James store closing within the next 3-4 months. It is supposed to close before the West Winnipeg store will open, and yes the store is in Winnipeg not in Headingley despite what everyone keeps posting.

So for a short period of time Winnipeg will drop to two operational Costco stores.

That makes sense as the store will have to be repacked back to the Costco distribution warehouse / direct vendors, the shelving realigned / enlarged and then shelves get restocked.

I may need to hold off even longer to renew or return as a member of Costco until both locations are completed.

I don't have the time nor patience to deal with cranky old people fighting over parking stalls and croissants.

So the St James store needs to reconfigure for a few months before it switches to a business centre?

I would bet that Costco has a fairly reliable prediction of when different items are going to sell through. They are then likely planning to intentionally run down the store's inventory as the close date nears to limit the amount of inventory that needs to be moved.

The Costco employee I know had said there would be a gap between store closing to the public and store opening to the public.

With the staff relocating it seems fairly obvious that they are going to need people to help clear out the product from the old store and get the new store fully staged for opening. I cannot see them getting that all done in an overnight shift. And without a plan to significantly increase staffing levels before the new store opens those hours need to be made up somewhere.

Part of the downtime for St James is likely to give the new location time to get through its initial opening without needing to compete with another new opening. It also gives time for the old location to be dark and let the public know of the changes. The other reason for the gap is to allow for hiring and training of new staff.

They will be closed for closer to a year. The entire floor needs to be cracked out and replaced.

Description: The applicant proposes to redevelop the site by demolishing the northernmost section of the building, previously a movie theatre, to create a new mall entrance and drop-off area. A brand new 10 stall food court with an increased seating capacity to 550 from the previous 250, additional CRU space, updated washrooms and office space are included in the plan. Additionally, the northern parking area will be reconfigured to add more parking spaces, exceeding the requirements of the Winnipeg Zoning By-Law. The plan also includes removing the westernmost access point to Reenders Drive to streamline traffic flow and enhance the site’s functionality.

804 Ellice Ave, aka the old Ellice Buy and Sell, is going to become a 24/7 Day&Night Grocery/Convenience shop. It’s been painted red and yellow and brand new signs are going up soon according to PPD website.

Also, the Bunty’s across the street is going to be rebranded as an Esso and have a full set of gas pumps installed, as well as a mini Subway according to the PPD website. Their chicken/laundry/carwash will all remain thank the gods.

My dream is for a mixed use dev at the old Husky site to really make this corner come back to full power and reflect the growing interest/vibrancy of this area.
