That's a shame. The REM is an excellent system based on what I've read from this forum, and certainly should have more ambitious TOD to take advantage of it.

Thanks. Certainly not the ambition you see in Toronto.

Depends on the lot coverage of development. Development on the island is typical in the park setting range. Something similar to Griffintown's form and function would provide decent TOD residential densities despite all the violet shaded areas. Interesting it doesn't include the low lying commercial/industrial along Golf Road (?)

The following shows Via Bloor (both towers) are now being occupied. When I passed by the site, they were installing landscaping, notably a couple evergreen trees.
To the right, the tower with the crane is the Rosedale on Bloor. (taken three days ago)

This is 21 Redpath, a 20 or so floor rental building.

I'm quoting myself because it turned out I was mistaken. The city just approved another 43 stories tower in the Symphonia community, which will be the last one. The precedent phases sold very fast, so this one should also be UC very soon.

This one is call Symphonia 3.

Good stuff. Ultimately, the wrapped around Le Watier feels too close to the mansion but, I appreciate the architect's use of a blank wall behind the mansion.

Quebec city continues to densify its urban fabric while keeping a finely tined sense of scale and a drastically higher aesthetic standard than most Canadian cities could ever imagine.

Expansion of the Enfant-Jésus hospital. Expansion might be misleading in this case because the governement is essentially building a brand new, nearly $2 billion mega-hospital on the site of the historic one. On the first pic, you can see the old hospital on the right.

The Well is my favourite project in Toronto.

Here's an example of dense urban townhouses sprucing up around central neighborhoods in the City. Modern whilst seemingly integrating with the older urban fabric.

Can't say I like these in their current unfinished state. The railings may change that opinion. One thing that won't change are the different coloured brick. It's feel forced and neither was it necessary. I also don't like the aesthetic of the lightest range in the style of brick.

Anyone else affected by the various trades unions that are on strike? Most of Toronto’s construction sites have been at a a standstill over the past week and a bit.

It’s kind of strange to walk around downtown on a beautiful weekday and not hear loud random banging of the whir of the electric motors of a heavy lift crane.

Weren't these trades deemed an essential service during the pandemic?

I'm not commenting on pay and worker conditions.

Their rationale for the strike right now is inflation which is costing everyone. Also, all these unrelated unions joining the strike in support is a typical power play/ ransom that goes beyond the point of creating unions in the first place. I also question who benefits more; maintaining relevancy of the union or its members

Looks like work is beginning on Promenade on Robie Street in Halifax. They are demolishing some houses and moving others around to make room for the towers. It will be two towers, 31 storeys and 30 storeys.

Halifax will go from having a 33 storey tower for 50 years to having 4 under construction with maybe some more to come. There is a triple 30 storey proposal in Dartmouth and there are a few others. It seems that 30 storeys is the standard economical tower height in the city now and is allowed in a few different planning areas. The tallest approved tower is I think 36 floors (120 m) but it's in a multi-phase pipeline and may not be built anytime soon.

A lot of the planning areas in Halifax have seemingly arbitrary height limits. And they have FAR limits too. I think there is a kind of titillation that the NIMBY groups get from arguing about how much society should be allowed to give in to the moral deprivation of the evil developers. Kind of like discussions of censorship of movies. Maybe they should install some fainting couches in the public meeting halls when they do in person sessions again in 2037.

Just read a well written letter with valid concerns and good ideas all spoiled when they wrote, "the development will block the views from my cat's favourite window."
