Maybe a dumb question, but what does RSA stand for? And what kind of organisation is it? I have tried to find out on the net, but it is not clear to me what this org. is doing.

It's a retirement pension fund for the state's employees and a lot of state affiliated people/organziations. CEO Dr. David Bronner is in command and a big reason we have all this construction going on.

I agree 100%. I limit my comments since I am now a native Prattvillian and don't want to give the appearance of sniping from the outside, but I've been extremely dissappointed by the current budget squabbles... After years of mostly working well together, this year has looked more like.... well... the Ham.

The City Council unanimously approved a rezoning proposal Tuesday that paves the way for a mixed-use development near the Five Points in Cloverdale.

The project will incorporate residential and retail spaces in the same buildings.

"Everyone involved is excited that it passed this morning," said Harvi Sahota, a principal in City Loft Corp, one of the developers of the project.

Three public meetings were held so area residents could hear about the project, which will overlap the Cloverdale Junior High School campus on Fairview Avenue.

Developers said they will use the next few months to design the project and iron out some of the issues raised in the public forums, such as where all the residents and customers will park.

Mac McLeod, the president of the Colonial Company, said it could take up to a year to get full architectural plans in place. Representatives from the architecture firm said all efforts would be made to match the style used on the Huntingdon campus and in the Cloverdale area.

For Huntingdon College, the zoning change would allow them to sell part of the junior high campus, which will underscore their argument the school needs to be taken off financial probation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, top officials at the school said.

Work won't begin on the project until early 2008, developers said, which will give the company time to finish a similar project at the site of the old A&P Grocery store on Cloverdale Road.

"We are looking forward to working with the neighborhood and Huntingdon," Sahota said, adding, "We've talked to the (Huntingdon) Student Government Association to figure out what services and stores they would use."

At least they can agree on that. That's more good news for Cloverdale.

BTW, I've seen quite a bit of renovation activity at the old Darryl's building...the place where Hooters is claimed to locate.

Saw this on Court Street today.

It will be interesting to see how the traffic patterns change after the fountain area of Court is reopened.

my guess would be that they are knocking down the old crappy buildings to make the lot more saleable.

Although, there was a condo idea floated for that area last year, haven't seen any more on that though.

I think things are going to pickup with individual lots and buildings... lots of properties to be converted/remodeled.

Probably you don't mean these buildings. But IMO it would be a shame to tear down these kind of buildings. These are characteristic buildings for your city. Not everything has to be modern.
