Every time the city does a rec review, it shows that we have too many outdoor pools and not enough indoor pools. We can't maintain all of them either. Lots of issues.

Nothing wrong with outdoor pools. I just have an issue spending what they're spending on renovating Wascana pool. I'm pretty sure at this point that Regina is one of the only cities in Canada without an actual nice indoor water park.

I am truly hoping the partnership with HCMA on the Wascana Pool and Maple Leaf pools will be the stepping stone to HCMA designing an outstanding new Lawson Aquatic Centre facility for Regina.

Does anyone know what’s going on? Hopefully tables are installed soon because the nice weather is finally here and there will be well-used.
The other day when doing a keyword search on SaskTenders I came across this one that was awarded late last September.

Wascana Centre Lakeshore Park and Goosehill Park Picnic Site Rejuvenation, Regina, Saskatchewan

The work consists of building two (2) new picnic sites in the Arboretum Park, as well as to renovate the selected seventeen (17) existing picnic sites. The renovation deliverables will include excavating two (2) existing gravel or dirt ground picnic sites and reconstruct with new asphalt top to latest local, provincial and national standards of the selected Picnic Sites in Wascana Park. The renovation also includes the replacement of old concrete aggregate table and bench legs, BBQ pits, waste disposal containers as well as refurbishing and reusing the wood table and benchtops.

The city is discussion over options for that. My guess is a proposal will come out either soon or before the end of the year.

Just gotta find that magic money.

Ideally they keep Lawson and build a new one as well.

My hope is the Lawson & Field house stays open during the construction and they build the new facility on the Taylor Field blank slate area.

That's why I was surprised and sort of disheartened about how much they're spending on the new Wascana Pool reno. It seems excessive and doesn't seem like money well spent to me.

There's a number of big capital projects on the horizon, including a new aquatics centre.

I believe a Lawson replacement would be in addition to or co-located with a water park type deal. Not necessarily built at the same time and the competition type pool would likely be the first to happen. The Lawson has had air quality issues for a long time, I'm not sure the work they did several years back completely addressed that.

Harvard proposal

Did anyone else see the Harvard proposal on the City's website for the Cornwall & 12th property? There was a rendering of a tower to flank the existing buildings on the property, in addition to the proposal for the plaza/Cornwall Street & 12th Ave area.

Are you talking about 10+ years ago when Jennifer Keesmatt did the built form renders around Vic Park?

No, this is new.

https://reginask.iqm2.com/Citizens/F...46&Inline=True

It’s part of their presentation to the city regarding their plans to tear down the Burns Hanley building. They want to tear down the building and build a pocket park (steps away from Victoria Park/the Plaza) until they’re ready to build something else and reuse the facade.

Honestly the finished product is pretty much what I think should be built there, but I don’t know how much I trust Harvard. Not sure what I think about this. If they were going to build right away I’d feel much better about it…

Can't quite comprehend the logistics of this proposal....
I don't think Harvard owns the building at the corner (Canadian Western Place) and they're showing the preservation of the former Novia Cafe building....so what exactly are these towers sitting on? Unless they also plan to preserve just the facade of the Novia Cafe..?

I would guess it would be facade preservation and then gutting everything else (building around Canadian Western).

I don't like facadism, but I would support this concept in a heartbeat. At least it preserves the scale of the park and has the potential for storefront activation.

That is a gigantic step forward for Regina. If they could somehow get the city to chip in a bit and rebuild the parkade on Cornwall it would be even better.

I can't see where there is demand for the office space, but it's better than anything I was envisioning happening there.
