This building will nicely break up that cluster of 400-footers.

When this building is finished, it will be so prominent that the buildings around it will mostly fade into the background. People will hardly notice them.

Yep. Third+Shoal is probably my least favorite new building. I do like the lighting, though, and color of the glass is good. Austin Proper is ok, too, but it's not my favorite. It's one of those buildings that isn't an automatic like and there are parts of it that I don't much at all and parts that I really like. I guess combined together, those elements are good. I like the dark glass on it, but not the light facade on the south. It's kind of a strange building, and it's going to be pretty much completely hidden in this view. You won't really know it's there until you're west of it. I wish there was a way I could swap places with Third+Shoal and Austin Proper to make Austin Proper more prominent than Third+Shoal and then have Third+Shoal's lighting on Austin Proper instead. I'm also really coming around to liking 500 West 2nd. Overall, I like it, and the design elements are handsome.

Well, might as well throw in my 2 cents by saying that the wavy metal siding on the parking ped of the North Shore is not all that beautiful. Agree about the south side of the Proper, yech. The blocky Google building in the mix is the best of the cluster, not saying much, but the Google Sail, now we're talking. I just hope the beauty of this building doesn't make the triple cluster look worse by contrast. This unfortunately will anchor the worst, albeit most dense cluster in all of Austin imo. I really do like Block 185, but I'm routing for the Rainey cluster and the cluster around 6X Guad.

I don't mind the Northshore "weaves". I like the shadows they create. I love the contrasts in that building's facade. It's one of our best. I'm big on facade detail. While the buildings to its right look good, they're mostly just blue glass boxes with subtle details.

By the way, I wish I could scoot the Frost Bank Tower over to the right (south) a bit to fill in that gap and make it visible there. It's almost like a missed opportunity for a view corridor of it.

Absolutely! There is a clear daily distinction between those that seek out the positive vs. those that dwell on the negative aspects.

Haha....well, back on topic. I don't mind Northshore garage aside from the fact that it's a giant garage in the middle of downtown and right on the river....the fact that it's covered with something interesting is better than many of the others in the core. I do think that this building (185) will catch the eye enough to pull attention from some of its more generic neighbors. As the taller towers come in (6 x Guadalupe and perhaps Republic?) it will do the same - draw the eyes up.

3rd and Shoal looks great in that last picture. Another example of looking at something from the right angle....
