It's a Girl!

But seriously, I took this photo to show the run up to Turn 9, as you can see between Turn 10 on the left and the Mystery Tower:

It's looking great. My only concern still is traffic, I wonder how long the wait will really end up being....that is if you don't take a helicopter in.

Lot of it is looking good, but man the tiny grandstands and the 1/3 done Stadium section GS really bother me for some reason.

We got some phone photos (admittedly low resolution, but some good views) from on-site at COTA today:

OK, this is something I've been hearing little bits about here & there, and I'm guessing it may be the reason Varsha will be in town for the weekend.

Mario Andretti, Patrick Dempsey, and Jerome D'Ambrosio to inaugurate new United States Grand Prix Circuit in 2010 Lotus R30:

D'Ambrosio will smoke those guys if he tries at all.

I finally got a pic of the observation tower. This is from my sister's street in Del Valle. I could see the tower from their front porch. Their neighborhood is only about 2 miles from the track.

I need to get another photo, too. You can actually see the tower and the grandstands really well from Highway 71 just as you're passing the airport.

I should be able to get some more later this month, plus some of downtown from the Expo Center.

Circuit of The Americas looks to expand sports offerings to tennis, volleyball, boxing

Quote:
By John Maher American-Statesman Staff Formula One. MotoGP. Aussie Supercars.

How about tennis, anyone?

Circuit of The Americas officials are making preliminary plans to use the new motorsports facility for more than races and concerts. Sports from boxing to beach volleyball to soccer are being considered for the venue, but the most intriguing opportunity involves tennis.

The circuit could, for a few days at least, be transformed into one of the world’s largest tennis stadiums.

“It could seat close to 20,000,” said Tim Stallard, a local promoter who is working with the circuit in an effort to stage tennis at the $300 million road course in southeastern Travis County.

Bobby Epstein, the circuit’s chairman, said tennis would be a particularly good fit at the track.

“It’s a high-end demographic,” Epstein said. “They need corporate suites.”

The circuit has plenty of those, and Epstein said the grandstand, paddock and other features at the track were designed to be flexible in staging events.

Circuit of The Americas will run is first Formula One Grand Prix from Nov. 16-18, and the concluding race that weekend could attract as many as 120,000 fans, the most to attend a sporting event in Austin.

That would be nice. I used to travel to Dallas (WCT), Houston (WTA) and San Antonio (US Clay Courts or Hard Courts?) for high quality tennis. It's been a while.

A drawing existing of a tennis court configuration doesn't mean one will ever exist. The most important auto racing safety item is missing in the drawing, the crash fencing in front of both permanent stands. Removing and reinstalling that fencing will be expensive, and leaving it in place for a tennis tournament wouldn't be viable.
If it were viable, one would think one of the existing 30 F1 tracks would have held a tennis tournament in the past.
