Will these changes attract local New Yorkers of the middle class to visit the observation decks.

The skyscraper-cosplayer in me is kinda cringing at that Empire State Building headdress, it just looks awkward and top heavy.

The ESB always has to be extra to beat the Chrysler...

This is the cocoon. I noticed that they started installing 4 weeks ago. i tried to find out in news with the keyword ''102 observatory renovation'' or ''cocoon Empire State'' but it was worthless, even in the ig page of ESB they seem to be witholding that information until it is finished but finally found why the cocoon was there. i really thought they were expanding the deck but it seems because of the landmark status the shape cant be altered so basically they removed the mooring points for the airship and increasing the size of the windows so they are floor to ceiling.
here you go a picture of the cocoon. by me

Found this thread because I was trying to look up what was going on with construction at the antenna.

The amount of antennas up there is getting insane. It's very noticeable now. It looks dystopian.

i think that they should all be required to blend in with the facade of the building, and not just slapped on.

they could just put some more thought into it

The renovation is complete. If you're visiting the observation deck you can tour the new museum and separate entranceway.

That's all we need, self absorbed Instagram influencers hogging up space and views in an already cramped area. That photographer amazing though.

For an extra $20 bucks, let'em have their fun. Most of the people won't bother to go up though. I've only been up to that level once myself, but will certainly check it out now.
