The City of North Bay has been looking into extending Marshall to Highway 11. I'm not sure about the MTO though.

Politics should make it work.

Okay one more fantasy post. This time it's North Bay Bypass @ Algonquin Avenue.

https://imgur.com/WQpzcGQ

Feature: Highway 17 underpass, Highway 11 flyover (with reduction in slope going up and down Thibault Hill) and roundabout interchange.

I apologize for wrecking both North Bay and the provincial budget...

Why not make something a little less "revolutionary"?

Since you've said the twinned TCH should go along 11 between the two bays, if by something less "revolutionary" you mean rerouting the 4-lane highway via 64 between Sturgeon Falls and Marten River, sure.

I mean the exit at Algonquin. It is kinda like you need to make it more different than it needs to be. Also, I have heard that 11 will go west of the city.

I mean, this is what happens if 17E to 11N is to be "free-flowing". Designing flyover ramps from 17W to 11N, from 11S to 17W, and even from 11S to 17E, is easy. 17E to 11N? Not so much. I have to put a roundabout in place if I don't want lights or 9-meter-high ramps. Like I said, consider this an instance of fantasy.

As for realigning Highway 11 to the west, I have heard of the plan too. I just haven't seen any concrete plans (not that Queen's Park is ever serious about Northern Ontario anyway, with some exceptions). After all, Thibeault Hill's steep (or, having an FN right next to the city complicates things).

On that note, it's interesting that I haven't heard Nipissing 10 complain about TCH. Isn't TCH / Beaucage Road a bad spot?

Also, is MTO replacing the bridge on Sudbury SW Bypass between Road 55 and Road 31? I was looking at the google map satellite view and saw the rocks along the highway blasted.

That's the Junction Creek Bridge.

It is supposed to be rehabilitated in the next year or so, but not replaced. The rocks that you seen on the satellite view are just ground cover for the hill to the east of the bridge.

That’s what I thought too. When I looked at the street view that was as recent as October 2018, I didn’t see any rock blasted.

They are resurfacing from Highway 69 to the 4 lanes.

As of 2 hours ago, the province has green-lighted funding for Highway 417 extension to Bruce Street (Renfrew).

Edit: Now, I hope ONPC’s smart enough to make that project politics-proof because they’ll be out of the office come next election.

Another question: As erosion becomes more and more severe along Lake Superior Shore, should 17 be ever moved further inland, or should we just upgrade 129 and 101?

You ever drive it? No, seriously, have you ever drove it and looked out your window. There are very few spots that are close enough that might get effected by erosion. Most of it is far enough inland that it won't be a problem.

The CP line, well, that is a different question; one that I cannot answer.

You've just been confirmed as a Northern Ontarian! Congratulations!!

Someone on my Facebook the other day pointed out that we pronounce "Current River" as "Curnt River". I never noticed before but it's true.

Yea. I drove from Heron Bay to SSM. K maybe the only one section where I could see the lake was Montreal Harbour, but I remembered being able to see the frozen lake.

As a disclaimer, I didn’t mean to bring up a non-existent issue to advocate twinning 17 along Lake Superior Shore. I’ve just been reading up the news, and one piece talked about the erosion of shoreline in California. Then I was like, “Crap, could the same be happening by the Great Lakes”? Then I checked the news and found out it’s actually happening. So far it seems to affect the Michigan side of things badly, but not the Ontario side. At least not yet.

The big concern for Hwy 17 along Superior has always been washouts.
