I'm not sure I understand. There are scenes like this every winter in K-W as well (snow cover and blowing snow-wise anyway).

Granted there are fewer of them, but I don't understand why this particular picture inspired that reaction.

I could find a picture of Washington, DC with the same conditions.

I'd have a similar reaction to a similar picture from anywhere - the one on offer happened to be of QC and sparked my reaction about the severity of its winters. Just looking at it made me feel cold and glad I wasn't there.

Edit - not a comment on the quality of the photo, which is fine - the low light enhances the effect, as does the fact that the figures have their backs to the camera.

Did it not come a very close second to Salt Lake City in 2002? IIRC for a while we even thought it was in the bag... I seem to recall we were the favorite, all factors considered.

Just for your knowledge. I just found that the highest peak of the Laurentian mountains is Mont Raoul-Blanchard with 1181 meters.
It is situated at 60km of Québec city in St-Tite des caps and about 20km north of Mont Ste-anne.

Meanwhile, in the South shore, Mont Gosford is the highest peak of the appalachian mountains on the Québec side with 1193 meters , beating Mont Raoul-Blanchard by only 12 meters!

I only know that our city changed and diversified alot in the last 10 years !

It isn't the governmental-only-city we used to know back then

If Quebec City tries to get the games, the ski hill they will use is Le Massif in Petite-Rivière-St-François. It's a bit shorter than the minimum requirement so they will have to find a way to extend it or get a special permission.

Apparently there is just few meters missing to be on law.

If there is one thing I have been regretting, it is not having lived in Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics. That's why I am so happy that they have been litting the Olympic Cauldron to celebrate gold medals in Sochi. I really like this spectacular structure and seemed to gather a jolly crowd of hundreds.

Chics Chocs is part of Appalachians mountain and have higher summits than Gosford.
