I understand there was already some underground parking there, it must be really significant for the tower to be put on the north side of the site which seems like the less desirable location. Was it the parking garage that dictated the placement of the 836 foot tower?

Basically, yeah... the parking garage had a cutout at the northeast corner that was unexcavated, where you could sink caissons for a future highrise. Moving the tower elsewhere on the site would require rebuilding a section of garage, which was maybe too expensive.
Also this tower is subject to a PD that includes Parkview West. Any changes to the PD, like changing the tower location, might require the approval of the Parkview West condo association. And they would not approve a change, since it blocks
their lake views.
