Only one problem with that, as Herdman explained yesterday, they don't want to play you.

Honestly, between now and November, there is not much Soccer Canada can do.

Like elly63 said, not many top teams will want to play against little old Canada. That might change after this world cup, especially if we make it past the group stage.

And Herdman said it as well, some of these teams have their friendly game schedules decided months/years in advance. But we managed to compete very effectively against the US and Mexico, and that might catch the eye of some European teams that have them in their group. A friendly against Canada might be a good matchup for teams like England or Poland, and it would be beneficial for us as well, obviously. If Costa Rica end up qualifying in June, teams like Germany, Spain or Japan might even want in.

We'll see what Soccer Canada and Herdman can pull out of their hats.

Some were proposing after the draw that Canada play England in a friendly prior to the World Cup. England will want a good look at a CONCACAF side similar to the US, and Canada sorely need to play matches against strong(er) UEFA opponents. It makes sense for both sides. The same argument could be made for playing a friendly with Poland.

I imagine Canada's plan for Belgium, and perhaps the others, will be to have Davies and Buchanan playing on attacking wings to force plays wide and long. Support from Laryea and Johnston. David and Larin in the middle. I'm not sure how much success there'll be in playing a high press like how they played in qualifiers - Belgium have a strong squad and Croatia a strong midfield group to counter much of that.

Canada has been drawn with Curacao and Honduras for the 22-23 Nations League. Playing at home to Curacao on June 10th...i'd like to see the team play out of Wanderers Grounds in Halifax for that. Derek Martin has already said that they've put in a formal request for it.

The international window opens on May 30th, so it's likely Canada plays a friendly that week, as well. Place your bets.

Canada's stadium song

OK so now that Canada is qualified, the question everyone is asking themselves...

What song will Canadian fans sing to support their team? In stadiums? In bars? On the streets?

Maybe this deserves its own thread?

It is catchy and worthy of a current update. Rap, hip hop or country need not apply

How about cheesy disco. Maybe Guy Lafleur can be convinced to adapt the lyrics to soccer.?

Bet on rap or hiphop, I'd say.

Can’t be worse than the “eh oh Canada go” from Pepsi for hockey a few years back. Hopefully this will be a chance for mainstream Canadian fans to see how much nicer it is to sing rather than chant.

Thinking about it more, it's usually an existing song (often from folklore) as opposed to a song written for the national soccer team specifically.

The Mexicans sing "Cielito Lindo". The Aussies sing "Waltzing Matilda" or the Men at Work song "Down Under".

For some strange reason though the English have adopted "Sweet Caroline" by American singer Neil Diamond in recent years.

The French simply chant "Allez les Bleus" repeatedly, which isn't all that great. Though I've been in crowds of French fans at games and they also sing the national anthem sometimes. Which isn't as bad as you might think as it's got some pretty good rousing peaks in it.

An Acajack flash of brilliance!

How about someone with talent re-does a new version of this:

... as The Good Old Soccer Game?

(I'll even volunteer to compose a verse or two in French!)
