And (US report), Walmart is pushing back some more against AMZN, asking its tech vendors to not use amazon's cloud service/s, which kinda makes sense.. Since their data would be sitting in their competitor's premises. Lol.

Yeah the whole list for BC is Kamloops, their Hometown stores in Creston, Sechelt and Grand Forks, and their outlet store in Abbotsford.

I just looked at the Sears store locator - this includes pickup locations, which boosts the 'store' numbers (I can't easily filter that out). Anyway... here's the breakdown (pre-stores closing) by province:

BC: 60

Look at what Toronto's extended downtown will be getting: again stuff that we in Vancouver are rejecting, so we get none of the following:
Grocer's Mark McEwan / Eataly, Department store Nordstrom Rack, etc etc.....

Note the tall condo towers in the Bloor/Yonge vicinity for this to be achieved. Exciting times for them.

Vancouver has plenty of grocery stores downtown, Eataly is looking for space in Downtown Vancouver currently and has a number of spaces shortlisted, and Nordstrom Rack is a glorified winners which I'm glad is not downtown.

Honestly, what in the world is exciting about this retail mix? Not to mention its on Bloor which is like the Alberni out here. Sure hope no Nordstrom racks are coming to Alberni.

Really - Vancouver is rejecting these and other stores?!? A lot of international stores open in Ontario and Quebec before they do here - it's all about population density. About the only problem CoV has is limited locations for large scale stores - the rest of the region doesn't have that problem. If they really wanted to open here, why aren't they looking at Brentwood - weren't they hyping it to be a luxury store location?

You can't have this kind of population density when the City keeps restricting heights and densities in places like OV, West Broadway, Cambie corridor, Kitsilano etc. And yes, I'm referring to Vancouver proper. The other areas beyond Vancouver are doing it right. Brentwood is just starting out, and will achieve the right kind of population in a few years' time. Downtown Vancouver has the population density but no desire by the City to improve the retail scene.

It would be a welcome mix. Anyway, Bloor/Yonge isn't just getting a Nordstrom Rack, they have plenty others. I'm sure the thousands of residents living around Yonge/Bloor don't just shop ONLY at the lux stores, right? Same can be said about the Alberni/Robson area.

So do you think we will be expecting a large-format Eataly, as large as that in T.O.'s Manulife Centre, in downtown Vancouver soon?

And by the way, Bloor isn't like Alberni, I would classify it as more like Yaletown, or even West Broadway: a subsection of downtown away from the downtown core and shopping. Lux stores just sprouted up there at Bloor because of the positive retail climate, which Yaletown/W. Broadway or even Davie could become if built in a similar fashion.

Hmmm as for Eataly, I suppose Vancouver House or Burrard Place podiums may be able to fit it, although it would be a smaller Eataly I would imagine.

There are smaller versions of eataly. Last time in europe we visited one of the Autogrill/Eataly highway rest stop locations, a book store/eataly combo that was quite small with only a few things within the book store (that was in bologna) and the Eataly that is in Munich which is one of the larger locations. The stores are simply fantastic. I just wonder how the loblaws execution of it will be. I worry it will be a rebranded city market or a true Eataly experience. I also wonder if our laws are not progressive enough to really get the true eataly experience.

Eataly is awesome and really excited to see it coming here either way!

Unless I missed something that globe article specifically says liquidation is NOT likely

Also, I read an article that says they want to do away with appliances electronics and auto parts.

Why do I have a feeling Canadian Tire is going to purchase the Kenmore brand?

yeah, highly doubt a pattison development would allow loblaws to take up space...

On the note of mastercraft and the other brands, wasn't the plan to sell off the brands considering there is some value there? Although all of these brands I would think belong to the US parent.
