This is subjective of course, but I think THF Field is extremely nice-looking! Right on Hamilton!!!

Thats a huge space. If they wanted they could erect a ginormous temp stand for the grey cup. Also the patio under the scoreboard can be taken apart and another temp stand erected under the scoreboard.

I agree. Does anyone know when, or if, the big "tiger cat" banners will be installed at the top of the grandstand, as shown in this render. I remember smaller banners in the endzone plaza last year, which looked great.

^ won't happen this year. In fact, they are starting to remove all Ti Cats signs and banners, including any corporate sponsor signage. They are getting prepared for the Pan Am Games. The stadium will be known as CIBC stadium.

The wind load on those things would be extremely high from an engineering standpoint if the material doesn't let the wind pass through u'll see 4 light standards in the stands or on the street with the slightest gust of wind.

The thing that kinda bugs me about THF is that in the original Concept it looked really Sleek ..almost Aggressive. Crisp yellow seats accented by Sharp black Accents with Ti-cat banners everywhere you look. No matter how Much the Stadium lacked in the wow factor with its structure, the paint job was gonna pop. Don't get me wrong I think it looks Great but the grey seats and the Sharp black accents ended up shades of grey and just washed the stadium out. The thing that looks great is the field level banners and the banners where the ribbon board would usually be. A way better job than IGF's randomly placed bomber and bison logos. Hamilton has a great Stadium in my opinion Taylor made for the eastern CFL but a simple color code could have made all the difference. Yet another missed opportunity in Canadian sporting venues.

Not the candlestick lights in the corners, but the ones on top of each grandstand are.

Drove by this morning on my way to work. Lots of city trucks and ticats personel on the property. Looks like they're getting used to their surroundings. All the advertising is still up though, they'll prob wait to remove/ cover it up until after the womens soccer game is done on friday. Advertisers want their moneys worth for that.

I like the grey seats. The yellow seats would've faded and got really dirty with all the factories near by. Would've looked like sh*t IMO. too bright and tacky.

What I would've liked to see is better placement of the elevator shafts for expansion. If they wanted to extend the upper levels of the east or west grandstands they would have to demolish the elevator shafts. But I suppose if they do expand it will be around the endzones. My bet is the North endzone first as the scoreboard was built high enough for the lower bowl to sit nicely underneath it. Also the two level patio is a temporary structure that can be taken apart. And they would want to keep the view of the escarpment open from the stadium as well as the massive patio entrance on the south side.

Wrong, wasn't trolling at all. I am a diehard soccer fan in addition to loving the CFL. They don't like alternative points of view & it shows consistently in that thread. Looks good on them.

I think you're right, if they expand THF's seating, it will be in the endzones. Those elevator shafts aren't going anywhere for at least 30 years.

In my view endzone seating is really what is missing from THF. I think the horseshoe configuration that they're using in Sask. is really the ideal one for CFL football... it gives the venue a nice closed-in feeling without having too many endzone seats (recognizing that the market for endzone seats is somewhat limited). The full bowl like at IGF is OK too in terms of creating atmosphere, although that configuration ends up giving the team a lot of endzone seats which can be tough to sell.

The east side stands, which are in some ways the face of THF given that it's the side the cameras face, are on the unimpressive side too. THF would have looked a lot better had the west side stands been duplicated with a symmetrical twin on the other side.

It's not a bad venue, it's just that I think Hamilton could have done a lot better, recognizing that they did get decent value for money with THF. But as with BMO Field, it's a bit underwhelming.

I agree. Judging by the renderings, the roof will lift BMO Field into the ranks of respectability. As it stands, BMO is a bit lacking for a venue that is home to two of Toronto's pro teams... it's not particularly impressive in contrast to the new generation of CFL and MLS stadiums (which are roughly on par with each other in terms of capacity and standards), but it will be once all of the planned work is finished.

I hate it when they do that. They should have just left it as "Tim Hortons Field".

It's like in Ottawa there are streets named "Way" which makes perfect sense in English. But they've bilingualized them with the word "voie" which means "lane" but generally as in a lane on a highway. More correct would be "allée" or "ruelle" but I guess that sounds too lower class.

So you have streets named "Voie Paddler Way" and fugly signage to go with it.

It's kind of the same thing in English, although it has become an accepted use. I presume the intention is to prevent people from just saying "the stadium" or "coliseum" or "arena" or whatever without mentioning the corporate sponsor, since just saying "the field" or "the centre" is kind of vague.

Ok, even without the roof, it's at least as good as THF or TD Place. Once they figure out the seating in the north end, it could rival any of the better MLS/CFL stadiums/ that are currently built or under construction.
