I'm impressed with the amount of road overhaul work that has been going on in London in recent years. I'm realizing there's been a ton of changes since I first got my drivers license:

- Commissioners widened from Wharncliffe to Wellington, and then from Viscount to Wonderland
- Springbank Drive widened east of Wonderland
- Bradley built from Wonderland to Wharncliffe
- Oxford extended west over the river, and widened from Wonderland to Hyde Park and then to Sanitorium
- Wonderland widened from Gainsborough to Fanshawe Park
- Fanshawe Park widened from Wonderland to Hyde Park, and from Adelaide to Highbury
- Hyde Park widened from Oxford to Fanshawe Park
- Wellington bridge over 401 replaced
- Hale-Trafalgar overpass built
- Western Road widened north of UWO, and now being widened from Platt's Lane to Oxford
- Southdale widened from Wharncliffe to Wonderland
- Sarnia Road bridge replaced

(I'm starting to feel old, realizing how much London's road network has changed...)

Southdale's widening is definitely needed. When I was first driving it was mostly rural out that way with low traffic volumes, none of the development west of Bostwick Road was there yet. It's changed a ton in the past 8-9 years and traffic has grown a lot.

I’m looking forward to it as a Byron resident. But I really hope the timing doesn’t coincide with the Wharncliffe CNR project, or it’s really going to be difficult getting out of here lol. Not sure about the suggestion that they prefer to widen to the south side of the road though. That’s fine from Home Depot to Tillman Rd, but I’m not sure there is space in front of those plazas and apartments to widen that road out to what those diagrams suggest the rest of the way.

I’m neither here nor there with the roundabout. I think it will be fine for 22 hours a day, but a 4 way stop would be just as effective as that’s going to be at 5pm lol. I think widening the roadways from all directions to allow right turn lanes as well as the northbound left turn lane starting back at the Shoppers driveway would greatly increase the flow satisfactorily. Not to mention the rumoured Boler extension down to Pack (future Bradley) would take a bunch of traffic off Colonel Talbot. But what the hell, roundabouts are in vogue, my son is taking auto body at school, maybe he can open a shop beside the chip wagon lol

anyone know about Commissioners between Highbury and Frontenac? Nothing on the city sites that I'm able to find, but it said there will be a month + of disruptions

I'm thinking it's resurfacing. There are distinct lines at Frontenac and at Highbury where the road surface is "different" in between, although not as bad as some stretches of road, like Dundas east of Highbury.

As well the plan suggests that whenever Bradley is extended to meet Pack Rd & Bostwick it will also be a roundabout.

I'm not out that area of town as often, but when I am traffic is chaotic. Hopefully gets done soon.

Looks amazing. Lets build them.

Nothing really surprising there. Unless the government came along with a bucket load of cash to move CP, you know they aren't interested in going anywhere, especially at their own cost. The worrying thing in that story, and the Free Press story, is the faint hope of high speed rail being the reason the CN corridor gets widened and possibly moving CP then. You just know there are going to be people suggesting we wait on the Adelaide crossing until we know for sure if that can happen, because they don't want to spend 60 million on an underpass only to have the railway leave a couple years later. Screw that, start digging that new underpass tomorrow. I don't care if it ends up being a waste later. Which it won't because even if HSR comes here, which I also doubt, CP still isn't moving.

CN & CP won't be sharing tracks anytime soon. Only way I could ever see it happening is if London were to have a Lac Megantic type accident with significant losses (I sincerely hope nothing ever happens). Perhaps the the federal government would legislate some type of bypass, or sharing arrangement. Very extreme but it would require significant federal involvement to make a change on this scale.

Improvements are needed for sure, and that third through lane on Higbury at Hamilton will help get more cars through the light if drivers actually use it and merge properly when it ends at the other side.

It's too bad there isn't enough room to put in a overpass or underpass here- that way you could get rid of the intersection on Highbury and replace it with ramps.

Considering they are taking parts of 40 something residential and commercial properties, and demolishing 8 houses, I wonder how far short of the land needs they would be to be able to put an overpass or underpass there. Obviously, it would be several times more expensive. I would shoot the northbound off ramp off to Norlan Ave and line up the intersection at Hale

Why not have Hamilton run under Highbury instead?

Ridout bridge replacement: politicians say no thanks to $2.3 million cost savings

http://lfpress.com/news/local-news/politicians-say-no-thanks-to-2-3-million-cost-savings

-----

As long as they don't skimp on the actual infrastructure itself, I think I'm ok with this. It would be 'nice' to have a cool design, but it's not really needed from a functional standpoint.

I doubt it has anything to do with Rygar's Camden Terrace project...

York St is now open from Thames St and to the west. Can be accessed from going west on King from Ridout. Still closed at Talbot to west of Ridout. Starting Monday, the Ridout/York intersection will be fully closed until mid-August.

The main intersection in Lambeth at Main St and Colonel Talbot will be closed this weekend in all directions for construction, as per the sign out on the 402.
