Now. i do not know how in the name of pete james melindy plans to dig a tunnel approximately 15km in length and 50 feet deep but i wont question the guy who brought home the kelly cup in the first season of the growlers. With a fine paycheck of what is rumoured to be 3 million dollars a year from the growlers alone he should have no issue finding funds for this as i did the math myself and a project of this magnitude would only cost around 5 million dollars maglev train and everything. that is correct melindy plans to expand the maglev train system from japan and china to the island with speeds around 250km/h your looking at getting to the goulds from downtown in 14 seconds thats what id like to call a spin. anyway we'll just have to see where this project goes over the next few months but I am in full support of it. wont need danny for this one
Its supposed to stop at Keiths Diner I heard

There’s a proposal to build a 13-storey hotel and 9-storey apartment building at 150
New Gower St, which is the land next to the Hilton Garden Inn.

Interesting. It's a basic design but fits the building types in the area. The apartments maybe a welcomed need; however, I do find it a little strange another hotel is being considered. Given the all the current circumstances, one would think the market would be saturated. But who am I to know the inner workings of the hospitality industy... Lol. These hotel companies know a lot more about future demand than I do. Maybe the company is being proactive given lead time needed for the approval processes. It's nice infill and it's good to see this area get some attention and up density. Some added retail in this area would really set it off imo. With the Jag expansion and other developments in the area... west end DT is where it's at!

I do recall this being a part of the site plan and long-term vision when the Hilton was proposed. I'm glad to see that it's moving forward; good spot for this type of development.

Hotel itself is pretty whatever in design. I like the residential building design though!

I'm not sure about the angle, but throw the Jag expansion in on top of the proposed Manga projects and you got yourself a grand view!

New Developments, Initiatives Coming to St. John’s, says Mayor

VOCM News
Jan 3, 2022

There's not a whole lot of information in the article, but I thought it'd be nice to tag it to the forum. Hopefully we see significant movement on the proposals mentioned here. Happy New Year and stay safe, everyone!

The Mayor of St. John’s is providing a peek into the future of what the city has planned.

Danny Breen says they have a number of ideas in motion. One of those is the Resilient St. John’s plan, which looks at addressing sustainability in the city and which will be released in the coming year.

A number of new developments are also on the way, such as a hotel on New Gower Street, a condominium complex on Queens Road, and the JAG Hotel expansion.

The City will also be continuing with the Healthy Cities initiative, while also looking at active transportation to move people around the city better.

He says there is a whole myriad of things happening as council is set to bring down new initiatives.

Scanning through the Council Agenda for Monday's upcoming meeting I found an interesting tidbit, "approval of a 16 Unit Condo Building at 36 Temperance St". No plans or pics or anything, I wonder what it will be like.

Anybody remember what happened to this? Was it killed by Covid?

I thought it was conditionally approved, pending a few "tweaks". If it was indeed killed by Covid then perhaps something good did come from Covid.

I still say that the whole AP Parking zone, that was slipped in a few years ago, should be scrapped to allow someone to tear down the whole thing and start from the ground up.

I sure hope it was cancelled.. it's beyond ugly and will stick out like an eyesore.

I’m sure Covid might have had something to do with it. If not it was prob public outcry from all the downtown whiners who don’t want anything new or different being built in downtown. It’s currently a big city block sized brown brick that will likely always be there. At least there is some colour and a bold contemporary design to this new proposal.

I agree that the design is very polarizing but it would be an improvement to whats there now. The current Atlantic Place has always been a big blemish in its boring and drab architecture. A new hotel there will also benefit all the smaller businesses in that’s area that are are currently struggling to survive like gift shops and restaurants/pubs.

I would love to see this redesign happen some day if we ever get things back to normal.
