I think its a bit weird, usually homeless shy away from people if they can, I think the library not acting as a makeshift homeless hangout has made it worse but the police also need to shoo them away for loitering. But People need to complain or the police wont do anything.

IS there a big push for Chinese Pistach trees? Just plant some of those guys and we should be good to go, or just new Ficuses

I hope so and hopefully Downtown Phoenix Inc. can perhaps get involved some way. DPI has been doing a good job of replacing Palo Verdes all over downtown with this species and other shade trees

Not anything huge news-wise, but just noticed the Hilton Suites on Thoms/Central are now Embassy Suits. They are changing out the branding today.

Also, they are rebuilding the grassy area into a plaza on the Southside of the Phoenix Corporate Center. This seems to be a trend. The 3300 Tower is doing the same thing.

I just noticed that the crane for the Hampton Inn and Suites came down over the weekend. Any updates on when the residential portion of that parcel will break ground?

It was supposed to start before Hampton is 100% completed. Someone mentioned October. But that has come and gone.

Everybody including Denver thinks it's a new tech destination. The bigger point is that nearly everything today is a little techie or has an important tech component. When the State/metro stopped worrying about catching a big fish or two and started using a shotgun to create a much more diversified economy is what has made All The Difference... brick by brick.

As far as I remember the only solid date was Fall 2017

Hopefully that means in the coming weeks.

I was browsing around Smith JJR's website and found on the ASU master plan, an image for Downtown that shows a tower on the SE corner of Sandra Day O'Connor. I do know there is a dirt lot on that corner currently and this tower design would fit perfectly on that corner. Has anyone seen this before or have knowledge that they will build a high-rise on that corner? It is the yellow tower next to Sheraton in the image below. I do not know how recent this concept is.

Looks like Generic expansion planning, it includes the athletic center as not built (which it is now) and the law school is a bit bigger than shown but that corner is empty.

If you go to the website it shows expansion plans from all campuses, some of which have been completed in recent years.

Still doesn't really answer my inquiry though. They didn't develop that corner and the footprint does roughly match what the tower in the rendering would take up. I wonder if this is still ASU's intention? A student housing tower possibly would complement the law school nicely.

There's no point in believing anything ASU puts out until it's built. I've seen too many of their plans fall apart.

That 3rd tower for Taylor Place has been thrown around for a decade.

In their defense I did read several articles about Bill Gates building a "smart city" with all sorts of buzz words. Slate at least providing some perspective on this as a long-term hold.
