I found it interesting that the Hyatt French Quarter has been rebranded on the Hyatt website but nothing else has been released saying it was being rebranded. It's becoming part of Hyatt's Lifestyle Brand called "Hyatt Centric". The Hyatt website says it's already a Hyatt Centric.

Has anybody noticed if they changed the signs?

It seems niche brands or microtargeting segments of the travel market is all the rage these days. Equinox gyms is about to launch a hotel brand that I think will be big in the market.

Hyatt Centric almost seems their version of Aloft or W. So geared to Millenial traveler.

Equinoz gym is about to open here?
Also, it appears the Joie de Vivre hotel will be opening in October? Any confirmations? http://www.nola.com/dining/index.ssf...art_river_home

The article seems to suggest early November, not October. By the way, looks like they've set up a site for the hotel now too (news to me at least): http://www.jdvhotels.com/hotels/loui...he-troubadour/

I wonder if any hotel projects (other than the Joie de Vivre) have accelerated their timelines to open for the NBA All-Star events. We have well over 1000 rooms under construction and that couldn't hurt considering it's the same time as the first weekend of Mardi Gras.

Chateau de Bienville

Stumbled upon this project on Latter & Blum's website. 18 townhomes along Bienville in Mid-City, a block away from the first phase of the Sidney Torres development.
Apparently slated to be competed in mid-2017.

Ugh. Couldn't they follow the lead of the new townhouses on Prytania? Those are really pretty elegant. These Mid City ones are a jumbled mess...

Those townhomes remind me of suburban Toronto not New Orleans. I'm fine with townhomes going there, but the design is awful.

Agree with you both. I love the idea of more infill in that area but this development could be so much better. Though I have no idea if this project has any legs.

I posted the permit for it a while back.. well it was a design review and stormwater plan review so seems pretty legit but yeah design wise they can do better. Im glad a parking lots going away at least.

Virgin Hotel

Some info on the Virgin Hotel from July:

In a July 2016 interview, Virgin Hotels CEO Raul Leal says the hotel should break ground "at the end of the year."

Havent seen any action on the permit although I think they applied for it early so as to make the deadline before new czo went into effect last year. Hotels changed to conditional use for that cbd district as opposed to the others where it is still a permitted use.

Convention Center Update

http://www.theadvocate.com/new_orlea...e=lift_amplify

Apparently the CC folks and developers are still in negotiations as well as slogging through planning and zoning issues. The new timeline is for an agreement by the end of the year, planning for a year and construction to begin in 2018.

That seems reasonable. Very large project for sure.

Development area map in that article seems to indicate that jaegers property is being pursued with the convention center property ... Not sure how accurate the map is but it definitely includes power plant
