That's a great London shot. It's not called The Forest City for nothing.

Isn't that what Winnipeg calls itself?

The Forest City nickname refers to the late 1700's when the area was a vast, mature forest. The name survived, but there is really nothing special about the canopy in London nowadays.

Yeah it actually comes from when London was only accessible by traversing traversing the forest from the main road. London was originally built to be the capital of Ontario because it was inland and defensible.

Most large Canadian cities could be deemed 'The Forest City' (i.e. Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, etc.), except Calgary (maybe), given its location in the prairies - foothills transition zone (i.e. more grass than trees).

The only major exceptions would be Calgary, Regina, and likely Saskatoon (as all three are in the grasslands biome). However, only London is referred to as "the forest city" for historical reasons, which is what the conversation was about. Trees only naturally survive in Calgary in the river valley and on north facing slopes. Without human intervention, our canopy would not exist.

That first pic of Edmonton is dope, and the second is really romantic.

I don’t recall seeing a patio by the Rideau Falls. Is it new?

Tavern on the Fallls. Opened last year by the same folks that have Tavern on the Hill in Major's Hill Park and the new pop-ups. That space sat empty for too many years. I think the place is doing quite well - same sort of gourmet hotdogs/cocktails menu as the other place.

Cunard Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth in the Port of Halifax together for the first time. They will be doing a rare evening sail away around Halifax Harbour this evening.
