Based on that, it would mean:

So before the end of this year, it should be the tallest in the Preston/Carling area, and in one year from now it should surpass the tallest in the city! I still wonder when they will start installing the glazing... I would guess they'd start closing it in in as little as a few months from now!

Typical highrise is once you are above all surrounding obstructions and into typical floor plans it's a floor a week given they use fly forms. I think once they get to the 6th or 7th floor you will see this building going up very fast instead of the years to dig a hole.

It will be interesting to see what kind of leftover glazing from other projects they pull out of the scrap bin this time.

Yeah man, and maybe we'll see some aluminum-look rounded-corner railings and spindles pulled off an early 1990s GTA suburb Holiday Inn for the balconies, like CP I and II.

Thats what I noticed too when I drove by. I really think this structure is going to turn out pretty good. I think the podium will be top notch-a bit disappointed with the north side changes but I think the building will look good overall.

After looking at Google Maps, I just realized that I might be able to see this, and the other tall buildings going up by Dow's Lake from my house and/or back yard ( I live just south of Brookfield road). Other than the Canada post building, I have an almost unobstructed view to the north to northwest from my neighborhood...

The Goldman Sachs Tower in Jersey City, NJ has 42 storeys and is 238m tall. Claridge Icon has 45 storeys and is 143m tall. I'm not so good at math but ...

You are comparing a residential building to an office building. Residential is usually 10' per floor with a 10" inch concrete deck. Whereas an office floor is usually 13'-18' due to the ceiling containing air-con, ducting, Ethernet wires, etc.

So Icon is about 10.5' / floor and the office building in Jersey City is just over 18.5' / floor.

Office buildings require higher floor plates than residential buildings because of increased space needed for wiring (computers, servers, internet, electricity, lighting) and ventilation (much higher density of people in the building).

That's why current tallest Place de Ville C at 29 floors, 112 meters, beats out our tallest residential Minto Metropole at 32 floors, 108 meters.

With all of the new technology, health regulation and green initiatives, office floor plates are even taller today then they were when PdV C was built in 71'.

No, it's the (by)law. Supposed to be 7AM on weekdays and 9 AM on weekends, unless they've been granted an exemption.

Police investigating workplace injury at Claridge construction site
Worker died at same construction site exactly 2 years ago today

Ottawa police say they are investigating a workplace injury at the Claridge construction site on Preston Street — the same site where a worker died two years ago today.

Police were called at 2:19 p.m. to a report of a workplace injury at the intersection of Preston Street and Carling Avenue where the Claridge Icon condominium is currently under construction.

Paramedics said they were called to the fifth floor where they found a male worker who had fallen from an unknown height. He was unconscious and was rushed to hospital in critical condition with a head injury.

Firefighters had to rescue the man with a crane and basket. He reached the ground just before 3 p.m. and was rushed to hospital.

Ottawa police said the Ministry of Labour has been notified.

No further details were immediately available.

Olivier Bruneau, a 24-year-old surveyor, was killed at the same site on March 23, 2016 while he was working at the bottom of a 30-metre-deep pit during construction. He was struck by falling ice.

In that case, the ministry charged developers and supervisors working on the project with a total of eight offences under the Health and Safety Act. Their trial is scheduled to take place next year.
