Seems to be complex work for the second skin support structure.

Pics by me today -
Glass being added along recessed terrace. There should be another setback for the level above.
(also looks like the canopy at the top level will be supported by steel columns):

Wow!! Thanks for the updates, the glass on the setback looks fantastic, creates lots of interest make for a very dynamic visual, I'm starting to think this project will look far better than the models and renderings and will result in a very exciting structure for our core. The materials look to be of exceptional quality so far.

Pics by me today.
The second skin framework is coming along at Granville & Robson (taking a long time and it looks pretty bulky).
The cladding on the upper setback looks complete.

You can see the oversized frames from the 1999 reno coming down at Howe.

What's the point of the dual skin section? Is it just an architectural feature to try and make the building look interesting?

Also, why the setbacks? Wouldn't it have made more sense to extend the office floors all the way to the edge, hence having more rentable square footage? Not sure how much more that would be, though.

The double skin is probably just a design element.

The setbacks provide roof decks which are a valued amenity for office tenants (esp. smokers).

I'd be surprised if they allow smoking on those patios. It would be considrd work place. No smoking allowed

It would be too close to the doors and windows anyway, according to bylaws.

I very much like the materials used on the new exterior. They seem high-quality, and the colour scheme sort of "goes with everything."
As connect2source said, this seems to be turning out better than the renderings and will make a reflective centre point for downtown.

Yeah that's what I was thinking (stupid anti-smoker discrimination!). And considering the weather here, I doubt they'll get much use the rest of the year (especially with people taking vacation days over the summer).

That is as absurd as a blanket smoking ban. Companies (all private property owners, for that matter) should be able to decide smoking policy for themselves.

At this time of year, my smoking neighbour leaves his doors and windows shut and his cigarette smoke seeps through our walls and causes me and my wife to cough all night. We both have lung issues. Our right to breathe in unpolluted air only recently became more important than his right to slowly kill himself - our building still has ashtrays in the hallways - and that's the way it should be.

Not the place for this discussion though.

If his actions are not affecting anyone else or their property it is none of your business.

In your case, he is affecting you while you are on your property, that is an issue and you have every right to complain and seek redress.

Any Judge in the land would agree that as long as the Federal Gov't is controlling the sale of, and benefiting from the taxation of, tobacco, "No Smoking Bans" are unconstitutional on public property.

Why aren't there smoking licenses for restaurants and bars they way there are for liqour licenses. If a proprietor wants to buy an annual smoking license for their establishment they should be allowed to do so and put appropriate signage on their establishment to notify the public that, "this premise is licensed for smoking".

Talk about another source of revenue for the city, province and country!
