An example of some highways in Newfoundland. Taken by me.

The Trans Canada Highway just outside St. John's:

The Trans Canada Highway in most other regions of Newfoundland is a three-lane highway - the third lane being a passing lane for whichever direction is heading uphill, allowing smaller vehicles to pass much larger trucks that struggle with the steep inclines:

Rock cuts are a common feature of Newfoundland highways. They're intended, obviously, to ensure the road isn't too steep:

The Irish Loop, typical of highways through rural regions of Newfoundland. They're incredibly fun to drive:

I feel bad for Quebec when even NFL have better roads, but thats a good thing for your guys !

It's definitely an interresting province, but very hard to reach by car. I did't even realized how much big is that province; from Channel Port-aux-basques to St-Johns, there's 10hrs of drive !!! O_O

Yes, it is very large. I remember once, at the airport in Toronto, my flight to St. John's was delayed and the airline employee said, "We can get you to Halifax sooner, is that close enough?"

Umm... no, 1,500 km from my destination is not close enough.

If you're interested in French heritage, you should visit the Port-au-Port Peninsula (they still speak "French" there) as well as take the ferry to Ste. Pierre et Miquelon. But bring your passport - France still owns those two islands. And they're amazing!

Indeed, 1500km isnt close at all ! ... And I'm sure you weren't with your car, then how much expensive it could be with a bus from halifax to St-Johns I cant imagine ! $$$$$... Then I hardly think you waited for another flight even with the delay lol

I tough french in NFL was a ''rumor'', I just checked, and NFL is about 99.5% english, then if so, there's french peoples, they're should be everywhere and speak very franglish or I may be mistaking here.

Btw, I don't want to be smartass with your, but in french ''Ste'' ( Sainte ) is for a women and St ( Saint ) is for a men. Then St-PIERRE isn't a women. Just saying

You're right, sorry. I always do Ste. Pierre thinking I'm doing it the French way, when I should be replacing the . with a -. But either way, go. It's amazing. But just be warned they are VERY France French.

Desole, la. ;-) (BTW, in English, Newfoundlanders often say "luh" instead of "eh". And it comes from the French "la". "What are you at, luh!", etc.)

French is still the mother tongue of some residents of Port-au-Port. But it's different:

Thank you signalhillhiker.

Yea Port-au-port, not very imaginative. All we know is that port is in .... the port.

Here we might go with : Ville-en-ville, Vallée-en-val lol etc...

Hahaha... there are a lot of those here, in English and French. Some of my favourites are Come by Chance, Blow me down, Dildo, Ocean Pond, Forest Field, Nez de Jerry, Baie Mortier, Baie de L'eau.

I figured since Franks the out-of-towner shares so many nice Quebec highway vids, I'd chip in...

This vid only partially features a highway (the 720), but nicely demonstrates how one may use highways in Montreal to shorten already pretty short trips.
It's shot in 'real-time'

This is the fastest way from westmount to old port (highway allows you to skip through SOME traffic)

Video Link

In this clip:

starts on sherbrooke, corner greene (westmount)

-right on atwater (cross downtown)

-right on notre dame (this is in Saint-Henri)

-right on greene

-right into 720

-through ville-marie tunnel

-exit saint-antoine (old Montreal)

-right on gosford (towards old port)

right on notre-dame (passes city hall, palais de justice, other law buildings)

Thanks for this, I felt bad to be alone to share our wonderfull cracked roads lol

If I have a good bunch of Montreal's highways / roads it's because I'm born in Montreal(laval) and Lived there all my life since I moved here last year. But I definitely get back there often (every months)
So I don't feel to be an ''out-of-towner'' yet.

I love the videos. :-)

Here's one I took of driving from sea level to about 1/2-way up downtown St. John's:

And a nice video of what it's like driving in rural Newfoundland:

That Gros Morne video...I almost expect Aragorn & co. to appear on the horizon: "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!"

Any driving videos of autoroute 20 through Montreal? Drove along that about 2-5 times per week for the better part of 25 years. Love the grit along the Lachine to Ville Marie sections.
