I'm kind of glad they blocked the webcam for a little while. Cause now its sort of shocking how much theyve done, it looks like they started tearing down one of the buildings towards the right now, and the one on the left is nearly done. And they got rid of that black rock thing whatever it was. The site prep should be done by the end of the year im assuming maybe sooner if they keep this up

But the Twins were icons, something this building will never be. People actually knew the Twins more than the ESB, and definitely more than the Chrysler. Try to understand, that this is not a building that belongs in that class.

They were only icons due to their size. Their architecture was functional at best. When they were built, nobody thought they would become iconic and they were loathed as monstrosities.

How do you KNOW this tower will NOT be an icon??? Can you foretell the future??? If thats the case there are far, far better things you should be doing than wasting your time here...

You're really just speculating of course, and you feel that way because you dont like this proposal. Well guess what? There are others who feel differently about it. Time will tell if it becomes an icon or not.

If the Twins were icons because of their sheer height and size, then most likely this tower will be one also. The giants of the Manhattan skyline are known no matter what they look like.

But you don't understand. This is a 1300+ foot needle in the 21st Century (not WTB). The Twins were 1300+ foot mammoth idols from the mid-late 20th Century (WTB's). They were featured in COUNTLESS upon COUNTLESS movies, something this building will do seldom to little of. They were the tallest in the city (this will be seen, but won't be the tallest). While this will catch people's eye, it will just be the "who cares" building. The Twins were literally Twins, (In Downtown) OMG. They caught peoples attention. They were office buildings, this will be residential (totally different). So the only people to go inside this building will be one who live in it, while the Twins WELCOMED everyone. The Twins were 400 some feet taller than the tallest building in the vicinity (AIG) while this will be only less than 200 some feet taller than the tallest building in the vicinity (ESB). The Twins caught the attention of many people through the break through innovations used during the construction process. This will used techniques used before, so nothing special except the height to width ratio, and I've seen more impressive h to w ratios in Dubai. So is this enough facts from the PSYCHIC, or do you want some more.

I fully agree, but the fact that this will be the tallest in its own area will be unique. Besides, weren't people liking this building since it looks similar to the Twins? Yes, this building will never be as good, but it will bring back that architecture back to NYC.

Yes, exactly. This building will not be as good. Not that the Twins were architectural masterpieces, but if this building WON'T be AS good as the Twins (both architecturally, and in terms of icon/legend status), then it must be bottom of the barrel. The International Style has been seen LESS, but that's all the city got since the 50's. So bottom line this building absolutely sucks. Twins > 432 Park

If you look at the new Marriot (on 57th) and Hyatt (on 46th), two buildings that are somewhat similar to this in terms of overall design (this building is simpler, but not by much), whenever this is finally above ground it should start flying upwards. Both the Hyatt and Marriott are rising at 2-3 floors per week, meaning that from completion of foundations to topping out, it is quite possible (assuming 432 Park follows a similar trajectory--the design is basic enough so I see no reason why not), that it only takes about a year. I think it's quite possible this will be mostly finished by the end of next year.

One57 is a similar 'class' however its design is much more complicated due to setbacks etc, and even that has risen roughly 50 stories in the past year.

Agreed. This is a great building that will become iconic because of it's location and height.

It will be tall, BUT that's about it. It won't be iconic.

A couple thoughts:

1) the proportions make this building look ridiculous.

2) who on earth would feel safe being in or even near this building?

3) i'll be shocked if it's financially feasible.

It doesn't matter. Unless you have gone over all the financial plans and all the inner workings of the deal, you have no idea or not. You are just going on past evidence. It is probably the most valuable development site in NYC, and the location right in the center of NY's business district counts for something. The location is special and unique, which makes comparisons to other sites unreliable.
