Dollarama as affordable grocery, is this woman insane? Affordable crap maybe. I member when the bakery closed, the news said a Foodland was going in there, obviously that didn't happen.

Someone should acquire the empty Guillevin Electric building almost right behind this, on the corner of Adelaide and Horton. The main building is 16,000 sq ft. The listing says 41 parking spots, but there is also an 8000 sq ft old warehouse in the back that could be taken out for more parking if needed, or used for some other type of business the neighbourhood could use. Given the size of these new No Frills that have popped up around town, this would be a decent enough size for a neighbourhood food store. The building is pretty old and low ceiling but you don't need a Superstore here.

Another spot I think would work is the SE corner of South St and Wellington St.

Demolish the small office buildings on the corner and that corner could accommodate a grocery store and a few of the usual retail subjects plus parking. The added bonus being it is right on the future BRT. And hopefully we see the next phases of the SOHO redevelopment with some more high rise towers to the west of Medallions two buildings. The south side of South St should be high rise towers and mixed use retail/commercial overlooking a bike path boardwalk vibe along the river. "Back to the River"

The dollarama in Citi Plaza has been plagued with theft from the massive vagrant population in that part of London. Despite having guards posted. I suspect that one reason for the lack of a conventional downtown grocery store is the expected prevalence of shoplifting. Margins are fairly slim in the grocery business, and if 2% of your product is getting stolen, you end up in a loss position.

At least half the problems with downtown London are directly or indirectly the result of the massive vagrant/junkie population.

Great Lakes Cooper expansion good news. Canada needs to build the economy by added value processing of raw resources into higher level products rather then ship off raw materials to be processed into products that we then purchase back.

Affiliate endorsed for London Hydro.

"The committee heard London is one of only two utilities with more than 25,000 customers that does not have an affiliate.

“We are behind the curve on this and we need to get in front of where we are going in electrification,” Ward 7 Coun. Corrine Rahman said."

But what does the affiliate actually do that London Hydro can't? There are very few details about what the purpose is in the article.

More bad news with Qualtech announcing closure of plant near Highbury and 401. They are owned by Magna and make seats for the Brightdrop EV van that is NOT currently being built at CAMI due to shutdown there.

I spent a summer working there as a student. That place was buzzing when they were making seats for the Equinox and Terrain. It really shrunk in workforce when they shifted to BrightDrop. Sad times- it was a decent place unless you were working on the rear seats- those sucked (I got outa working on that line somehow )

Many Restaurants have priced themselves out of business and current business climate just adds to the problems.

I never knew they were a chain. I did go into their store at Westmount Mall back in the days when I lived in an apartment building across the street (2005).

Another brand to boycott:

Southwestern Ontario bottling plant shifting work to U.S., 160 jobs lost

Quote:
Closing the Amherstburg plant, so Diageo can bottle some Canadian-made Crown Royal whisky in the U.S., will kill 160 local jobs. Many of those employees come from generations of family members who have made a living bottling Crown Royal whisky.
I for one refuse to buy anything from companies that have shifted their operations south of the border. To hell with Kellogg's, Heinz, and Diageo.

Pasta maker Andriani opens plant in London.

Italian pasta-maker Andriani just finished building its $33-million plant here, its first in North America, and will supply 1,300 retailers in Canada and the U.S. from London

Cami not planning to reopen until mid-November, rather than October, will have even fewer employees coming back than originally planned, and the battery plant will sit idle for the foreseeable future.

LFP article on bad news for Cami in Ingersoll.

Things are likely going to get worse in 2026 for this plant.

Wortley condo listed for $2.6M - if it sells for this would be the most expensive condo sold in London.

That's a lot of coin for a condo in London, even though Wortley Village is arguably the best part of London.
