I was there the other day and notice that the "rotating Eath" thing wasn't in the main lobby anymore...I wonder why they took it off??

Does anyone know?

Nice find, Vanman. I quite like the area at night. It probably has the highest concentration of interesting lighting in the city (outside the Granville strip). I also like how transparent the building becomes at night. It really shows off its nice warm, wood interior.

I think it was just part of their opening festivities, just sort of showing off the sorts of things they can do to add interest when certain conventions are in town. That's my take anyways.

A few pics I took yesterday from around the area:

I noticed the landscaping connecting it with Harbour Green Park is all finished now. It probably has been for awhile but not since the last time I was there.

Still wrapping up work on this last piece of seawall

I'm curious to see how this looks when finished

It looks like it will be quite visible even with plants

People seem to enjoy relaxing here

Those glass awnings will make it a good place to sit even when it rains

I wonder if they'll ever add some retail to the base of the Shaw Tower, aside from that small Starbucks inside the lobby. There could be some space for a nice patio.

Looking liek this will be the place to be in vancouver when it's done. Wonder if it will motivate the city to expand upon this in the future while downsizing Robson if the local populus chooses it as the public square of the city.

Thanks for the update raggedy! I am mad that I don't have my camera with me when I was there.

RE: rotating Earth

I actually liked that public art and I was hoping that they can put it back on again!

The Plaza and all of Coal Harbour was wall to wall people yesterday. The Convention Centre was open to the public as well.
The Thurlow Plaza is a fantastic venue for live performances and a welcome addition to Downtown.
The Hot Hot salsa dancer and the steel band were my favourite.

Yes, I had previously mentioned that this plaza would make a great venue for a summer concert series. Maybe every 2nd Saturday during the June-August period, or something like that.

I was in the plaza on the west side earlier in the day and saw a great local Indo-Celtic(?) band called "Delhi 2 Dublin". Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me at the time but I agree the space worked great for a concert. They also had the building open to the public which was great since I hadn't had a chance to see the inside yet.

I got my camera later and was back to take some shots during the fireworks. I was only on the east side as well though. Perhaps you are in one of my shots SpongeG.

The renos on Canada Place appear to be in high gear

Well I am a dude and there were some girls around but I don't recall any of them holding a camera over my head. I'm sure we were in each other's field of vision at some point anyways.
