this is nuts.. that corner is going to be INSANE! i love it.. I hope there is some public parking in a hidden garage tucked into that development somewhere because parking is already kindof a nightmare around there.. this is why i need a house on the Beltline haha

Geez you'd think I had personally insulted every one of your mothers or something.

I'm repeating what a construction worker told me about how quickly its being built. When you push up schedules like that, people invariably cut corners, they're working extra hours, making mistakes, etc etc. Given it started after the University apts and is now almost 5 stories tall, certainly seems to be going much faster than the one across the street. All seemed like valid points to me.

So you're totally right, I don't know at all whether thats accurate. Sorry for repeating something I heard from someone I assumed knew what they were talking about

As someone who works in the Design industry (and I'm pretty sure not the only one on here that does), I have complete faith in the construction of that building. Quite frankly, they aren't moving that fast and that building is designed, just like every other building, with a factor of safety. It does have to pass inspections after all....

I agree with you, but I have to point out the irony in that statement, because a few years ago the adjacent Centergy parking deck had a catastrophic failure and an entire section of it collapsed. It happened in the middle of the day and dozens of vehicles were destroyed. It's a wonder no one was killed (photo from AJC).

Still, I don't think building a few floors over the course of two months is exactly rushing it.

how does something like that happen? was there a problem in the design, or are the standards just not all that great?

From memory, it was a combination of things, however I want to say a majority of it came down to two factors:
- Shoddy Construction - the company that built this had prior instances of parking decks collapsing

- Improper Value engineering - When they went to reduce costs, I believe they lessened the number of ties from the prefab floor plates to the prefab walls.

I would argue that comparing pre-fab construction (The parking deck) and construction done on-site as two completely different things and I don't think its fair to equate the two. Just my opinion though....

Looks like someone at the ABC needs to do a little fact checking. That pictured tower is planned for Midtown, not Downtown.

I haven't been to Buckhead in a while and i know Three Alliance Center was supposed to break ground Friday. I haven't heard anything, though, in a couple of weeks, since they came out with the groundbreaking date, is it under construction yet or is it still yet to break ground?

I saw that the area has been fenced off. I wonder if once this is built they will finally build sidewalks on that stretch of Lenox.

Oops! On the plus side, Post Centennial Park will actually have more units than Millennium (thus more new downtown residents).

I totally agree. It seems to be a higher caliber building than any of the other high-rise apartment developments. Unfortunately this picture doesn't capture a close up view, but you can definitely tell a difference when you see it in person.

Yes Pica, you are correct the Post apartments downtown will have +/- 85 - 100 more apartments. The concern some of us had was the Post development in Midtown is 20 Stories on 1/4 of a city block. However, the Post apartments in downtown are only 5 stories and take up 2 city blocks in the densest area of Atlanta.
