He would have been much better than Ford. In fact, he's the one coaching Ford in the legislature. You often hear him telling Ford what to say and what to do during the proceedings. And he's always nodding his head and saying "yep" whenever Ford is speaking. It's sad that he has stooped to Ford's level. He has lost a lot of respect in Northern Ontario.

Timiskaming’s presenting the 2+1 model for Highway 11 (North Bay to Tri-Town) at Sudbury tomorrow. Sad to hear that 4-laning is out of question.

@swimmer_spe you gonna go?

As an afterthought, why not just connect all those “small roads” around Highway 11 together to form a proper EDR? Same thing with 17 and 11-17.

I will not be going to this meeting.

If this plan was suggested for a Southern Ontario highway, the citizens would be up in arms.

Highway 11 south between Graven Hurst and Barrie is planned to be bypassed as there are many issues with the narrow highway.

It is very expensive to build anything in the North, so, I get why people are trying for something, anything.

I’d think the cheapest thing to do would be to link up those forest roads from North Bay to T Shores, though.

As for GTA and SWO, we’re still waiting for the Bradford Bypass, 404 Extension, Guelph - Kitchener Link, Morriston Bypass and Highway 3 twinning, among others. Keep in mind that 3 between Essex and Leamington has no passing lanes. I actually almost died trying to pass. Later on, when I met up with my friends back in Windsor, one of them said I looked like the ghost and that whole group had to comfort me.

If you know the roads, the forest roads do link up. In fact, throughout much of Northern Ontario, you can drive without ever touching pavement. However, in winter? Not a chance.

All of those highways you mention all have major 400 series highways, or other 4 lane highways that can do the same thing. Not only that, but if there are none, there are other highways or other paved roads to use.

That caused a detour of ridiculous length. If this same accident happened in the middle of summer, I would be fine.

Oh yea I should have suggested paving some of those forest roads. I suppose this is part of what I meant by consolidating TCH’s EDR a few pages back.

Apparently, from Temagami to Latchford, Highway 11 is the only thoroughfare though.

There’s actually a back road east of 11 from somewhere between Owaissa and Smoothwater Outfitters to the park south of Latchford Bridge.

Roosevelt Road? It just kind of loops around and doesn't get you very far. And it isn't suitable for transports or Winter driving.

Yea that’s the issue with these forest roads. At least, next time, if a sinkhole suddenly appears on the highway, passenger vehicles can go around it (not trucks, unfortunately).

There have been times when I've used logging road detours during highway closures. The police don't recommend using those roads but they are there and good if it's the right time of year and weather conditions are okay.

On highway 101 just West of Timmins I once drove on a 4-wheeler ATV trail to get around an accident. The trail went alongside the highway for maybe half a kilometre. That section of the trail was dry gravel and it hadn't rained for a few days. It meant that I wouldn't be late for work.

There is construction near Narin Centre. If it gets too bad, I have a way to get around it. Takes me to Fairbanks Lake Rd, and then back to the highway.
