^I sure hope they carry on as well. 6kms is such a short stretch, but hopefully it’s just the start of a continuous effort to get the TCH fully twinned.

Webcam of Manitoba / Ontario border. I’m not sure if this is the mb side but you can clearly see the clearing going on.

That would be the Ontario side. Camera is at the Ontario visitor centre. They had a separate clearing contract ongoing for a while now in advance of the upcoming construction. I believe the clearing may have been through the local first nations.

Provincial news release today. Nothing really new here that I can see, just funding for previous announcements.

PROVINCE COMMITS $1.5 BILLION TO HIGHWAY NETWORK PROJECTS
– – –
Targeted Highway Investments for Economic Growth: Piwniuk

The Manitoba government is committing $2.4 billion in infrastructure funding as part of Budget 2022, with more than $1.5 billion going toward a three-year plan focused on Manitoba’s highway network, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Doyle Piwniuk announced today.

“Our government recognizes targeted investments in roadways and bridges are foundational to our economic growth and the quality of life for all Manitobans,” said Piwniuk. “Advancing our highway network will enable market access for international, interprovincial and regional movement of goods, and will position our province to become a national transportation hub.”

The three-year plan to invest $1.5 billion is an approved budget and has an annual commitment of at least $500 million focused on highway capital. The minister noted the province plans to invest nearly $233 million in projects identified in the trade and commerce strategy, and had outlined a number of Perimeter Highway projects totalling over $346 million over the next three years.

Key initiatives include:

The Manitoba Trade and Commerce Grid to upgrade provincial highway networks to allow heavier loads on provincial highways to support the shipments of goods and services across markets. Once completed, the grid of strategic routes would represent 36.5 per cent (7,112 kilometres) of Manitoba’s all-weather provincial road network, with 6,000 km of the grid already completed. The three-year plan will also include projects on Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 5, 21, 59 and 83.

The Winnipeg One Million Perimeter Highway Freeway Initiative to allow for a full access-controlled freeway standard to create a safe and more efficient Perimeter Highway for residential, commercial and industrial growth in Winnipeg and surrounding communities. Projects part of the freeway initiative also include the construction of a new interchange at the Perimeter Highway and St. Mary’s Road, and the design and initial phases of a second new interchange at the perimeter and McGillivray Boulevard to support safe, efficient and free-flowing traffic access.

“We are very happy to see the three-year capital program for highways, bridges and water-control structures,” said Chris Lorenc, president, Manitoba Heavy Construction Association. “When industry can plan ahead, the province gets the best value for its annual budgets. The multi-year budgets and increasing investment levels are a strong sign the provincial government and Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure recognize the critical role transportation infrastructure plays in economic growth.”

Investments in long-term infrastructure goals and strategies have been initiated to not only increase safety and sustainability across the province but to build the foundation of Manitoba’s economic growth, noted the minister.

The Manitoba Multi-Year Highways Investment Strategy can be found at: www.gov.mb.ca/mit/myhis/index.html.

I feel like the premier announced the same thing a few weeks ago.

Edit: Ya.

Province has 3 year spending plan on Infrastructure. Including the 2 interchanges on 101.

These type of statements get me though.

“For the first time in our province’s history, a three-year capital plan is introduced to address key priorities to strengthen, invest and build on the province’s infrastructure,” said Piwniuk.

Ya this happens like every single year man.

There's a link on the Provinces news release with detailed projects.

To note. Twinning of Hwy 15 from Winnipeg to Dugald. Twinning of PTH 59 from Ile des Chenes to PTH 52, and twinning of PTH 52 from 59 to Mitchell (to Steinbach basically). So another twinned hwy route from Winnipeg to Steinbach.

The only interchange is St. Mary's. The other new bridge project is the Symington Overpass which was talked about recently.

A little bit confusing. It lists the projects I mentioned as happening. But also gave this list of projects under consideration. Which are fairly major projects, including the twinning of #1 in Whteshell.

1. Interchange project: PTH 100 & PTH 3
2. Intersection Improvements: PR 215, 7.2km east of PTH 12 to PTH 44 (in Beausejour)
3. Surface Reconstruction (Twinning): PTH 1, 5km west of PR 301 to Ontario Border
4. Surface Reconstruction (Twinning): PTH 3, 1.6km east of PTH 100 (Wyper Road) to 6.7km east of PTH 100
5. Surface Reconstruction (Twinning): PTH 15, PTH 101 to 1.2km east of PR 206
6. Surface Reconstruction (Twinning): PTH 52, PTH 59 to Mitchell (Reichenbach Road)
7. Surface Reconstruction (Twinning): PTH 59, PTH 52 to PR 210
8. Surface Reconstruction: PTH 101, PTH 100 to PR 230
9. Surface Reconstruction: PTH 75, Pembina Emerson Point of Entry (US Border)

100 & 3 was announced like over a decade ago (remember the "interstate quality diamond" lol), how on earth can it still qualify as "under consideration"!?!?

It was "announced" as an election promise by Selinger's NDP when they already had no chance at winning. They also threw in St Marys, St Annes and Kenaston in the same announcement. PC's hardline budget cutting shut that down fast.

A decade later 1/4 will be complete, 1/4 will be underway and the other two probably another 5-10 years out.

wasn't in something like interstate quality drainage haha. I guess they're working on the design or something. Seems like it's next on the list. But this only goes 3 years out.

twinning PTH 59, PTH 52 to PR 210 can't happen soon enuf for me! I seem to be driving to Niverville very frequently and this stretch does get very busy from the end of the current twinning at Ile Des Chenes. Recently it mentioned that Niverville is one of the fastest growing municipalities so it makes sense to prevent accidents as traffic increases to be pro-active and get this done.

The twinning projects sound reasonable to me, there are a lot of very busy outlying roads that would stand to benefit from passing lanes and a median between directions.

Surface Reconstruction: PTH 101, PTH 100 to PR 230

I'm trying to figure out this one. From what I can tell, PR 230 is McPhillips Rd? So which was around is it. From the Portage or Fermor side?

The plan is to start McGillivray once St. Mary's is complete.

It also seems they're going with some larger bridge projects. Floodway at 59N is underway. Daly overpass in Brandon too. They have St. Mary's over floodway planned for a new bridge and the Symington overpass. Always have a couple larger projects on the go, which is good news.

Yea I guess theres more to the province than Perimeter

Fair point. They have those bridge projects you mentioned plus those hefty twinning projects lining up. Nice to see some capital projects moving forward finally after ~5 years of essentially simple repairs.

So I'll be in the grave before 16/TCH interchange and Brandon, Elie and Virden Bypasses are built?

You may still be in a personal care home when 16/TCH is built, but definitely dead before the others are built

We'll be long dead yes haha

Maybe once they get through the north perimeter design study phase, they'll refocus on some of the other locations that need attention. Maybe.

Best case scenario VANRIDERFAN's funeral cortege will pass over the brand new Brandon bypass on its opening day

And this is how I want it to look. (With the Canadian Flag instead of the Union Jack)
