Thanks much for all the info. It always kind of irked me that the Newman Center's catholic college redevelopment of the bookstore got turned down by the City Council. Interested to see the new proposal.

And with the existing development under construction and the new 'Gilbert Drive' project, it seems that whole county island of junk yards will be redeveloped and probably incorporated into Tempe within the next few years.

Also nice that even out as far south as the Emerald project they're building texas donut apartment buildings.

Looks like they'll extend the grass down toward the lake similar to Marina Heights creating a park-like feel.

^^^This is pretty nice looking. I have always wondered when the Phoenix area would start seeing low-rise multifamily developments wrapping around a high-rise tower. This gives me hope that maybe some of the multitude of low-rise developments going up in downtown PHX could one day incorporate towers.

The low rise stuff is limited to 7 stories/80' (i think) because of fire and construction code related to them being wood for the most part. Towers need steel and concrete and as a result have much more complex foundations.

They're building the low-rise stuff because the density and construction cost are at a sweet spot. It's posssible that the low-rise stuff will get taller still as most of the low-rise stuff today is built out of a creative interpretation of the building code, a developer in Sacramento finagled their way into an 8-story building.

Does anyone know what’s planned for the lot next to Omni? Just drove by and they’re moving tons of dirt and a drilling rig is on site.

I don’t see anything on the planning maps.

According to this article, this project if approved could begin construction as early as December of this year. Also mentions the first phase of Southpier to begin early next year as well. If that holds up, we could have 3 high-rise towers along the lake all going up at once.

In the meeting where they approved the Lincoln South project last night, the commission chair successfully talked the developers into 4,000 sq ft of retail. I think they were planning somewhere around 2,300 sq ft before
