Rent getting a little pricier Downtown, so businesses are migrating to nearby neighborhoods (Garfield, Coronado, Melrose etc.) Not that I want great restaurants moving out on Downtown, but that's a trend of a true big city/Downtown if you ask me

To be fair Rice Paper was in Coronado long before it opened in the San Carlos hotel.

Eddie the barber told me it was a Mexican restaurant operated by someone who had a handful of other locations around town. I didn't get any more detail than that.

I'd never heard of that restaurant until now, but the website says "new location coming soon," so I guess it all lines up. The other locations all appear to be in the East Valley suburbs.

Pulled the images from Google maps. I passed by that McDonald's a while ago and immediately wished a McDonald's like that would open up behind hanny's or in the core of downtown. Would be nice with all the foot traffic.

That McDonald's you're referring to is at the SEC of 27th Ave. and Camelback Rd., near the area where I grew up (brings back lots of memories). I used to frequent that particular walk-up and drive-thru only McDonald's - it's the only type I can think of that exists in the Valley.

Funny that you wished there was a McDonald's in the core. There used to actually be a McDonald's where the Hilton Garden Inn is now on Central & Monroe. A McDonald's used to occupy the 1st floor (where Nook Restaurant is now) and it operated for years until it closed down sometime before 2005/2006 if I recall.

That parking lot behind Hanny's has had its share of proposals over the years, but I think a 1-story restaurant building would not be the best use of that particular lot. I would like to see some sort of multi-story building be built with commercial space on the ground level.

I don't know why I have this strange feeling that the McDonalds was on the other side of the street, across from the Hilton Garden Inn..... ?

there shouldn't be a McDonald's anywhere.

to settle the above debate, McDonald's was located where Nook is now located. There used to be a Burger King on 1st Street and Washington, also.

I had that same feeling, but maybe I was confusing it with the Subway.

Just talked to the owner of the new mexican restaurant going into the San Carlos.

Going to be a taco shop. Lower price point than Chico Malo. Super fresh ingredients, homemade tortillas, etc.

Hes also the owner of Bar Smith etc. Tons of experience.

A throwback more like. About 10 years ago, it was a rumor that circumnavigated the internet to taint Subway's "reputation."

At this point McDonald's could probably help Subway's reputation
