Speaking of increases from Chinese carriers.

Star Alliance member Air China in late-August 2025 plans to increase service to Canada, with the addition of 3rd weekly flight to Toronto and Vancouver.

I would love to see that I compared the travel mileage between London and Auckland, one with a stopover at DXB and the other via HKG.
Going via YVR falls in between the two distance-wise. Seems doable. Is it in the cards at all?

At least the uni I'm at (UQ) is probably close to 50% Chinese, I'm sure Usyd/Unimelb/ANU etc are in a similar range. And they usually travel back every semester. Very good points. Here’s another one:

China is Australia’s largest trading partner ($312B/year). And trade, naturally, promotes air travel. That’s not the case here. Our largest trading partner is the US ($910B/year). China is a distant second ($120B/year). That's almost 3 times less trade than China-Australia.

Even if the Canada-China bilateral was as liberal as the China-Australia one, I don’t think you would see the same number of flights here vs Australia.

Meanwhile back on the domestic front

Canadian carrier Air North during Northern winter 2025/26 season plans to resume Yellowknife – Vancouver service, last served regularly in the first quarter of 2020, on board Boeing 737-500 aircraft. The carrier plans to operate 2 weekly flights from 24NOV25.

YVR has also become the real gateway to the north!

This winter 48-50 weekly flights (depending on the week) to YXY and YZF

An interesting link is "Flightconnections," a Netherlands-based platform, that shows which airports have flights to where. While Vancouver has great Oceania coverage (MEL soon coming back, we haope) SFO has, BNE, SYD, MEL, AKL, NAN, plus winter seasonal flights to Adelaide, and Christchurch NZ. That's what I'd call having the South Pacific well covered. Oh, and of course they have PPT, too. LAX has the three major Australian cities, but now also GRU, SCL, and LIM as well. Hopefully YVR can get some more coverage in addition to concentrating on SE Asia and Korea.

Any idea for CZ equipment

They will recommence before China Eastern

So CZ will be YVR’s 27th longhaul foreign carrier and China Eastern will be 28th then

Total foreign carriers excluding USA will be at 29 and including USA carriers now total 35 airlines!

Getting so close to 30 longhaul foreign airlines!

Pre Covid they mainly flew the 787-8/9 to YVR with the -8 going to Mexico and post covid I remember seeing their 787-9's out here. I was fully expecting to see their 787 at YVR again.

Throwback to during the Covid days when they flew the A380 to YVR.

Air Canada will begin cancelling flights on Thursday ahead of a planned nationwide strike of flight attendants, after talks between the union representing them and the carrier broke down late Monday evening.

The Air Canada Component of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, or CUPE, issued a 72-hour strike notice on Wednesday morning, meaning that more than 10,000 flight attendants at Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge could go on strike starting Saturday.

Air Canada said that in order to manage the uncertainty ahead of a heavy travel period, the first flights will be cancelled on Thursday, with more on Friday, and a complete suspension of all Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge operations on Saturday if a deal between both sides is not reached by then....
