Fascinating to see what new builds like this are doing to gain occupancy ASAP. 8 weeks free and $750 gift card but leases are 18 months, because they know rents are going to continue to go down.

Does anyone know what's planned for the old East Central Storage site at 853 Airport Blvd? They've been doing demo on the storage units this week. That area is building housing all over, but this site seems a bit small and awkwardly shaped.

Welp. I guess you have to have storage places. At least they're building a new cut-through for LASA traffic, though probably unintentionally.

Paradisa Homes wants to raise an apartment building in East Austin
Quote:
Paradisa Homes LLC’s plan to bring 144 new apartments to East Austin has gained a nod of support from City Hall with a recommendation from the Austin Planning Commission backing the company's site plan.

The Eddy, as the project is named, is set to rise on an undeveloped 3.3-acre site at 6620 Ed Bluestein Blvd., which would bring another large apartment structure along U.S. Route 183 near the University Hills neighborhood.

Whoa. That went up fast. Love the cantilever. They'll have a great view of the pit that will be i35 for the next decade.

So this one is 2 floors of office space and 2 floors of parking? Pretty underwhelming for that location.

Maybe so, but the area east of 35, especially between 4th and 11th is really starting to get bulky and urban. It used to be essentially nothing but single story buildings on the Eastside, other than the RBJ building.

For the first time it's starting to feel like you're driving through downtown on 35, versus by downtown.

Yea and just wait until we get a couple of 20+ story buildings east of 35. There's that one that's going up where that Dennys is. I think that one is around 20 stories.

They are not seriously attempting to call this property "Central Austin," are they?

I thought the same thing. People here always argue about these terms. I had someone try to tell me Crestview is central Austin.

Three miles from 6th and Congress is pretty central imo in a city encompassing 300+ square miles and stretches into Williamson and Hays counties.

I mean, if we consider 183, 360, and Ben White as a loop, it's in the inner loop.

Yeah, I could see arguments from folks that aren't from here that it is centrally located. But locals wouldn't consider that Central Austin.

That said, I like to see more densification on narrow lots.

I always thought of Central Austin of between Loop 1 & IH-35 and between 51st Street and Town Lake. That area to me would be East Austin.

Totally agreed. If you really want to broaden things, "Central Austin" could include south to Oltorf, east to Pleasant Valley, west to Mopac, and North to 51st/Keonig.

But either way, Airport and 71 right here is most certainly "East Austin"...
