Over the years auto dealerships seemed to proliferate like weeds up and down La Brea. I have heard it said that Nugent Chevrolet had a showroom at
3rd and La Brea, although this is not necessarily borne out by a cursory perusal of the directories. I have a vague recollection of an auto showroom at 3rd and La Brea's northwest corner, but can't say for certain it was Nugent or any specific dealer. It may also have been a camera store for a brief time (Samy's?) The location is currently a Trader Joe's. I am told that the building retains the showroom's original leaded glass windows (covered by the awnings - below).
Does anyone have any photos of the building when it was occupied by Nugent or some other dealership?

Virtually across the street from Trader Joe's is a Ralph's grocery store (
260 S. La Brea). At one time, the northern part of the lot was
Irv White Buick (250 S. La Brea). I think there may have even been a Pontiac dealership to the north of Irv White Buick.
Do any photo's of that dealership and/or the Ralph's - (in one of its earlier versions) exist? My efforts to locate any have been unsuccessful.
How about
Holmes Tuttle Ford at
361 S. La Brea? (Mr. Tuttle evidently began a lengthy friendship when he sold a car to some actor named Ronald Reagan.
http://www.tuttleclick.com/dealership/about.htm It is likely this occurred at Mr. Tuttle's Beverly Hills Lincoln dealership.)
Hard to ignore this iconic image of La Brea looking south from Third Street, from the Stooges' 1936 "False Alarms." Pretty sure that equally iconic neon Chevy "bow tie" - sign on the left was Nugent's original 6th and La Brea location. I suspect the "Dodge" sign on the west/right side of La Brea was actually part of what later became the Chrysler-Jeep dealership posted by GW (below). If not, a remaining part of the Dodge dealership is currently occupied by furniture purveyor.
