I couldn't be happier with how this is looking. The real life material exceeds what we see in the models and renderings.

There's some glass on the Robson side now.

Maybe Klazu can take a shot?

This is just a lousy iPhone 4S shot but my wife was walking by it as I read this and I got her to take a shot. The wonders of modern technology.

Agreed, it's a pleasant surprise.

It will be nice to have the exterior done while the interiors are being worked on for a few more years. At least it will look done from the outside.

Me, I don't see any yet, in the picture anyway.
It seems to me that in the renders (now well-known) the Howe side always looked the glassiest and most reflective,
(except for that ugly corner, hidden by the "render rhododendrons")
It'll still be a whole lot nicer when that's done, even if the interior is still in work stage.

That makes sense - that's where the alcove was.

Pics by me today.

The glass at the Granville & Robson corner is "clear" (though it looks reflective in the pic).
There is also an operable window facing Granville - see the white frame
(my guess is to vent or access the void space between the inner and outer curtain walls on the corner).

Thanks.

Interesting about the cut-outs in the floors near the corner.

They don't line up with emergency stairs, according to the pics of the plans previously posted by Built Form, and I think they did the same thing at the Robson & Granville corner (and then filled them in).

I wonder why?

I was told by somebody whose spouse is working on the project (engineering relating to plumbing, I believe) that there are some major deficiencies with the building that they were not expecting, requiring significant rework and delaying the project by one year. As this is essentially through the grape vine, I would look for confirming evidence before getting too excited.

Doesn't sound right, even if they needed to redo the plumbing from scratch it wouldn't set the project back by nearly that much as the building is barebones right now. I'll try to find out tomorrow from the source.

That is most certainly not correct.

Like any projects there are some hiccups but as it stands this will open on time.

I won't be able to afford to shop there ... so it only matters to be that the outside is completed on time!

In reality though, I am excited for the new Pacific Centre section in the basement, as that will create another entrance to the station.

Just got confrimation that there is no plumbing issues which will delay the project. Apparently the project is going quite well, the only snag they have hit so far was cutting thru the slabs on the upper floors. The blades/bits to cut thru the concrete didn't like hitting metal decking which causes vibrations which can destroy concrete, but they've overcome that now.

Pic by me today - steel going up at the rotunda
(even though the edges of the lower floors have not been poured).
Also, are they going to straighten out that slight inward bend on the top slab (doesn't look like it)?

Thanks for confirming. I'll be sure to never quote from that source again.

Pic by me today.
Note the new steel beams high up - presumably for the second skin (though they seem far away from the first wall)
EDIT: I think that's an illusion in the pic. The second skin supprts are the smaller gray stubs)
