If you're in the area, there's a good "skyline view" of the Domain along with downtown from the Ben White/71 overpass as you round Lamar. I've seen the Domain buildings poke up from 360 as you pass by the old Toys R Us, but I noticed the view today from the upper deck and it's really quite good. You can also see the Barton Creek Resort from up there.

IMO the best view of the burgeoning skyline is on Parmer westbound from 35 to Lamar.

I agree. I see it from the intersection of I35 and Parmer a few times a week and its far enough away to see the entire north to south ends, and close enough to see details. The huge netting at the golf driving range is a distraction though. Also, some height is definitely needed. To me it won't have much of a skyline effect to brag about without several 300 to 400s added to it.
As is, its most impressive view is up close at ground level. What's also impressive is that there is a good view of it from Ben White. But most of Austin is pretty flat and you can see for miles on most elevated platforms, especially on a clear day.

I rarely get up there. I don't have much of a reason to need to go between Mopac and I-35 that far north. We either take Mopac or I-35 and head north. I agree, though, that view is good. I always notice it from I-35 near where the Carmax is. I'd like to scope out a place to see it around there where I can stop for some photos. I don't think there are any garages around there. About the only options are the midrise hotels at Parmer & I-35.

Anyway, you can see the Domain here in that Ben White view on Google Streetview. That view is going to get better as more bulk is added to that area.

I spotted the Domain from the far south end of Georgetown this afternoon. To my surprise, the Independent and Austonian appeared as well (roughly 23 miles).

You can see the Domain pretty well from the South Austin Medical District (my own personal label for the area).

Similarly, I just moved to a new seat on the 11th floor of Domain 8 today and noticed that I can see the downtown skyline from my desk. Sorry for potato quality. It's really zoomed in.

Check out this blurb from the city's first response to the formal site plan filing for the Domain III office tower:

Quote:
2. Two fire lines are required for buildings over 420 ft in height. This building is very close to this
limit.
The site plan:

Only a government would call <308 "very close to" 420.

I read through the list, did not see any showstoppers in there, looked like standard stuff,

how long until you think they break ground ?
How would we know the next stage, would it be the crane report from the gov ?

Our fire lane requirements are the worst! Let's make the roads/streets of Austin dangerous 100% of the time so that our over-sized trucks can get to the scene slightly faster 0.001% of the time. Such a fail for our Vision Zero and walkability/bikability goals.

Since my last post, there is a new item added to COA for the domain. Domain Tower4. They just finished the review for DT2, DT3 and residential and now they are starting the site plan process for DT4. Wow, its going to be crazy construction on the south side of the domain.

Domain IV should be the second 300'+ Domain tower. Here's the site plan. The formal site plan filing hasn't been added yet which should include the height info.

I haven't seen this noted anywhere yet, but Domain 9, 10, and 12 have all broken ground on the north side, and Domain 12 is well above ground, with 2 cranes attached.

For reference:

Here's a recent Statesman photo showing Domain 11, 12 and 10.

What's the plan for the space between 9 and 10 next to the water? A park? It seems like something else could fit there. If a park, that would be nice to keep some green space, but I sure hope it's not going to be a parking lot.
