That's a lot of hotel rooms. Definitely an improvement on what's there now.

It's been a while since I've been on here. Lol. And even then the first page seemingly hasn't been updated since the Obama administration.

I guess we could compile a more current list and then ask Mojeda101 to update the first page? I'm unclear on what's still in the pipeline, as I just moved back to the area a little over a month ago.

Thank you for the offer.

Anybody want to put together an updated copy-and-paste list for the front page? I'm willing to help, but I don't know enough about what is current to make it myself.

Convention Center

They really need to upgrade the convention center facing Chick Hern Ct. The stairs and parking lot there are an enormous waste and the with the hotel and LA Live, that is an important side of the building. I'm sure creative architects and landscape architects can put together something that is more welcoming, active even when a convention is not occurring, and better ties the area together. This area should be thought of the same way they are thinking about Gilbert Lindsay Plaza.

Well, here is the update from almost 2 weeks ago that I wanted to post but couldn't figure out until I got to my computer. Was traveling for a bit.

In downtown, the Brookfield tower now has glass facade coming along. It's really dark glass.

Also, the facade is coming along nicely on the Moxy Hotel and it is very visible on the skyline.

In some indirect news that may or may not apply to downtown... Onni's Los Angeles Metro projects are coming along... which could mean that the closer they get to completing these other projects they are in, that maybe their new downtown towers that are approved will start soon.

This is the Long Beach tower that is moving along

... and 2 weeks ago they began the Hollywood conversion of the historic GW Bank building on Hollywood blvd which will be next door to the new office tower they have proposed and their stalled used-to-be-ground-pit Santa Monica blvd Hollywood 7 story has finally reached its second floor. Hopefully they will start their 60 story downtown soon. Originally it was to break ground in 2020 but Covid...

Side note, the Library Tower (US Bank Tower) got its current naming rights and logo in 2003. With Silverstein as its new landlord and it coming up on the 20 year mark for this naming rights deal, here's hoping this ugly logo comes off the crown. Does anyone know how long the naming rights were signed on for? And who is excited for that slide to come off the building?!

Great update hughfb3!

Regarding the first page, I've been around for a bit and for whatever reason volunteering to own it almost ensures that you soon lose interest or time for this site.

Facts. I love Los Angeles with all my heart but I just don't have the time to be updating it. I encourage anyone to pick up the mantle and do it themselves because I simply don't have the time.

Anyways check out this awesome image of our future time square.

Yeah, it's hard for me to get excited about that pic when Oceanwide has looked like that for ~2 years.

Someone please buy this project and finish it.

Gotta say I was surprised to learn those towers have been under construction so long, but I'll also say this: coming from San Francisco, I'd rather have an Oceanwide project that is all sealed up and on pause like LA's, rather than an Oceanwide project that is nothing but a gaping hole in the heart of downtown, like SF's.

New apartment tower rises next to DTLA's Figat7th mall
Brookfield is developing a long-empty site

Steven Sharp
Urbanize LA
July 29, 2021

Nearly 13 months after we last stopped by, the concrete superstructure of Brookfield's new apartment tower looms high above the Figat7th shopping mall in Downtown Los Angeles.

The project, named for its location on a formerly empty site at 960 W. 7th Street, will be a slender glass-and-steel tower featuring 784 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments above an 831-car garage.

Marmol Radziner and LARGE Architecture are designing the tower, which will present as a 56-story building when viewed from its main entrance on the upper level of Figat7th. However, when including above-grade parking levels fronting 8th Street, the tower will stand 64 stories - or roughly 695 feet above ground level.
. . .
